Farmer arrested for ramming home with tractor

A dairy farmer embroiled in a labour dispute is facing a string of charges after repeatedly ramming a tractor into a home – seriously injuring a former employee. The farmer‚ from the coastal town of Mossel Bay on the Garden Route‚ was arrested by police on Sunday. The dispute appears to have started in December 2017 when a farm worker and his wife were fired and subsequently lodged an unfair dismissal case against the farmer at the CCMA.

Elvin Booysen‚ chairman of a local farm committee in the area‚ said the couple were confronted by the farmer while fetching wood. “While that (CCMA) case was ongoing they continued to live on the farm. The river is on the border of the farm …. The farmer came and confronted them. He told them it was his river and they cannot remove the wood‚” said Booysen.

The couple were allegedly assaulted during the confrontation on February 25. “Their house is situated next to a gravel road. When they heard the tractor approaching they assumed it was driving along the road. “The farmer then drove right through the house. He threatened to kill them. They have been working for the farmer for over a year‚” said Booysen. The couple‚ whom he said were in shock after the incident‚ had been receiving food donations from the local community.

Southern Cape police spokesman Malcom Pojie said a case of assault was opened after the incident.

Farmer in dock for allegedly trying to bulldoze house - with farmworkers inside

Mossel Bay – Hilton Levendal was sitting in his favourite seat in the kitchen of his humble farmhouse when a boulder "bigger than [his] head" crashed down on him after a bulldozer ploughed into the side of his home.

His former employer, a Herbertsdale farmer, is accused of driving the bulldozer and has been charged with attempted murder, assault and malicious damage to property.

He is expected in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Levendal, 46, claims the farmer has been victimising him for being "too clever" after he called him out on his alleged racism, and for educating other farmworkers about their rights.

Relations between Levendal and his partner and the farmer were strained because he had attempted to evict the two from his property in November, Levendal said.

He approached the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, which overturned the eviction decision as Levendal and his common law wife, 41, had no alternative place to stay, he explained.

Assault 'not the first time'

According to Levendal, the farmer had been victimising him before the eviction attempt, giving him less and less work.

"He said he wants me and my family to die of hunger," the farmworker claimed.

The father of two alleged he and his partner had been collecting wood from a river bank on Sunday, February 25 – a day after his birthday – when the farmer approached them and told them that the river belonged to him.

Nobody post any news about crime in rural areas. The media only cares to push a racial agenda when it is a white person doing the crime against a black person.

There are lots of stories of black on black crime, just over the last few days we had the school saga where pupils vandalized the house of the people across the road, it was a black guy that tried to chop off another black guys legs with a chainsaw, this just off the top of my mind. Some of you just see what you want to see.

Once again Pitbull, these are the kind of posts forcefate was referring to. Whenever the perpetrator is white their is always some or other excuse on this forum, but when the perpetrator is black those same posters turn around and call the criminal savage.

So practically bulldozing a house with people inside is not attempted murder? You must be related to Zuma.

Edit: And these were not squatters, they were living there legally. This case was still ongoing. He is a common criminal not to different to the thug shooting people in Randburg.

Trying to talk sense to Rietrot is a futile exercise, especially in such cases. Just take one look at his response and you'll know you are out of your league.

Why not leave them alone until the courts have ruled on what should happen? It's seemed to have been purely by chance that one of them wasn't killed, and the fact that the police are investigating this as attempted murder seems to confirm this.

Trying to talk sense to Rietrot is a futile exercise, especially in such cases.

For some reason the same people that were so vocal about Ngwe's racism cannot see the same from this guy.

O please I haven't said anything racist. I even said the farmer was stupid, probably acted out of anger under the influence of brandy and went to far.
