PORT ELIZABETH - A 32-year-old man was expected to appear in court on Tuesday in connection with a farm attack in Hankey in the Eastern Cape more than a week ago, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Police Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the man faced four charges of attempted murder as well as charges of rape, the illegal possession of a firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft and indecent assault.
The suspect was arrested in Nketlana Location just a few kilometres from the Lesotho border.
Keep safe. It usually starts with petty stuff and they get more courage as they are not being caught.
Thanks, this was a bloody long weekend. Patrols through the night. Will be upping security measures again today. This has already cost a small fortune. First upgrade paid for itself this morning with an early alert.
I don't really know what's up at the moment but this morning is now the 4th time over the last two weeks we've had a gang of guys coming on to the farm to ransack buildings. Luckily up to now nobody has gotten hurt but we are now upping security as something is weird is going on. Or maybe this forum has just made me bloody paranoid, but we've never had this before. It has always been one or two petty thieves stealing car batteries and other small things. And every bloody time at 4h00 in the morning.![]()
They keep making holes in the fence next to the R44, I ride next to the fence on my way home each day. Might also be more entry points behind the soccer field. Glad to see that yesterday there were some guys working on closing the holes. Across the valley next to the R304 the new owners of Monterosso spent a pretty sum on a new fence with concrete foundation all around the farm.
When Montorosso started with the fence it was up on the hill where the line of olive trees used to be. I ride up there on weekends to get to Botterlary Hills. The situation is so k4k they had security guards sitting next to the concrete mixer and other tools that were used to put up the fence. Just so that it won't get carried away! Further down that side the spot where they caught the guys who murdered Hannah Cornelius, Dwars-in-die-weg I think it's called, has undergone massive security upgrades including CCTV covering most of the grounds.
Bottom line is if you are not going to join the arms race you will get left behind and become an easy target.
On the plus side a few weeks ago there was an attempted break in at one of the pumps on my dads farm, it was about 3:30am and he drove up with the lights off. When he got close and switched on the lights the perp ran away in the bushes and left his bike behind. A rather sweet looking GT Ruckus, which from what I can tell from the stolen bike section on Bike Huh has not been stolen and reported.
These guys are going full retard, I have upgraded my alarms (even added a pepper spray system), busy adding cameras now. They stole some poles off an active vine block this weekend, even cut off live vines for fire wood. This is now just becoming ridiculous. Whatever is not guarded, gets stolen. I don't know how business are expected to survive while being robbed like this, and the police are absolutely useless. They get here hours after reporting, come for finger prints a week or two after theft happened, and then you just never hear from them again.
I don't want to sound like AdrianaX now but I'm now also starting to think the government just don't give two ****s about what's going on on our farms in the country.![]()
A lot of resources have been dedicated to urban areas as these have always been problematic. What farmers are experiencing is pretty much what is happening at rural villages. Police station
back where I come from serves other villages 30km+ away.
I was at my folks' this past weekend. I was told someone was attacked and tortured until she gave the criminals money. A lady was tortured and drowned in a large clay pot last year.
Stop going out to your vehicle to inspect. This is where most people get ambushed. If you are overpowered outside they will have easier access into your house where your family is.This is what we are all scared of now. Every time the dog barks are get in the car and go around to inspect. But after a few weeks of this it starts to become to much. And our security guys are useless, they are being taken to task at the moment.

The stuff on the farm should be insured so let the insurance deal with it. Have enough lighting outside your property and then the most important part is, which people dont want to hear, get a firearm and get training.
It is never a good idea to go outside but luckily the cameras are coming up. Perhaps try and explain things to your wife, take her to a range to experience a firearm, it might put her at ease. The firearm thing won't work, long story but my SO don't want it arms anywhere near the house. I have a lot of light around the house but at night I go around my buildings to inspect as we've had a lot of break in over the last few weeks. Once the cameras are in that won't be necessary anymore, and that should be in this week.

It's hard. My parents have started locking the gates at night and locking doors whenever they're indoors. They have valuables stored in a non-locking shed. I'm going to buy them cameras and install more exterior lights and a combo motion/proximity detection alarm for their borehole pump.
