Farm Attacks

Seriously? My tribesmen in Oz don't know anyone who has been murdered, let alone people who were at school with them or worked with them; we have had the discussion. I went to a school with 320 pupils, 5 have been murdered, 4 on farms. It is what it is.
Your memory is good, I don't recall the 30 in my matric class, let alone 320.

You should come to the US where those are rookie numbers. A recent survey was done that found 1 in 5 people have lost a loved one to gun violence (roughly two thirds to suicide and the rest were homicides)

I think it depends where you are in the US and what you do. Again, I have tribesmen in the US, been there for maybe 40 years, Florida (house destroyed in hurricane) and now Chicago, went to the same school as I did and no mention of anyone they knew murdered and it has been discussed. In my experience and comparing with those in the US, Oz and the UK, SA crime rates are at another level entirely.

We are opposites; I do not remember how many in any of my classes but do remember the number in the school, within the nearest 10 anyway. It often came up in sports comparisons.

I don't think his memory particularly good, more like yours being really bad if you can't recall the names of people from your class.
Of course I do recall them, the ones who were in my circle, I had no business to do with the others, I don't recall how many were in the class and certainly don't recall how many were in the whole grade or school.

Maybe he was a prefect or something because I don't think a regular kid who has their studies to worry about would have time to think about 320 fellow learners in the school. But I am the type of person who would greet a colleague all year long and never ask their name, so I could be the odd one.

You sound bad, how many people in your department/organisation?

Farmer Hugo Louw was assaulted on his farm near Lamberts Bay after confronting individuals who were in the process of slaughtering sheep on his land. According to reports, the attackers allegedly assaulted him with knives, a spade and other dangerous implements before leaving him severely injured.

Then, digging about a bit, I found an article on this on FB about the attack. Also this comment.

Quite a confused person, religion of peace being hateful. Seems this one is East African if I have to guess.

Clive Boois (27) and Marlon Booysen (25) have been charged with attempted murder with extenuating circumstances and stock theft, and Anthony Storm (28) is charged with stock theft.

Also in the two articles above respectively:
The minister also referenced another recent incident in the Swellendam area where two elderly tourists staying on a guest farm were forced to fend off three masked attackers.

In a separate incident on Friday, two elderly tourists were forced to defend themselves against three masked attackers at a guest farm in the Swellendam area.

Meyer, who also serves as minister of economic development and tourism, said the attacks threaten both the agricultural and tourism sectors.

Sounds like a privileged upbringing. Even pre 1994 class sizes in public schools were 40+.

In my year we had about 70 between 2 classes. Only about 30 are still around. I know of a few lost in the border war and a few murdered.
