Farm murders and attacks gradually decreasing, according to statistics

Whats up with this 30% odd kak?

AfriForum’s spokesperson for community safety Jacques Broodryk said it was unclear whether the number of attacks decreased because more and more cases are not being reported to the police.
 
It's probably just more lucrative to pull phones from people's hands than to attack a farm three days.... Though with the Eskom situation and farmers getting solar we could see farm attacks turn into full military level raiding of the farm in order to get their hands on those panels. (The kind of military raids you see in the central and west Africa where they virtually eliminate entire villages)

It's only a 15% increase... Great news everyone!
 
I think it is broadly correct as farming communities have evolved to try and counter the threat. For example in an area I know reasonably well, private security and farmers are better equipped, armed, organised and trained (thermal imaging and night vision alarms, drones and equipment, SLR's etc), often in front of a pitiful SAPS. Corrupt and incompetent prosecuting authorities remain a problem. Direct access to farms is more restricted and there are more contractors replacing farm workers, reducing access further but relationships with immediate communities and local SAPS, such as they are, have been strengthened and attackers now seem to often come from the cities; quite a few are city SAPS members (two incidents I am aware of).

Exactly this. Farmers are becoming more self-reliant and depend less on the corrupt police/government.

50 too many.

From what I read from that is that they are becoming more brutal, less attacks but about the same amount of murders.

I doubt that's it.

With SA's unemployment rates, there just aren't enough positions available for phone grabbers.
If there is something that is even kind-of valuable, there will be someone who specializes in stealing it.
 
Without the private sector arranging their own protection and without security companies we would be wiped out in no time.
SAPS are useless and involved in some way in a huge percentage of crimes.
