Im a big fan of fast bowlers!
Why dont we have any in SA?
Aus have Shaun Tait who recently bowled a 160kmph delivery 3 time in one over, Brett Lee is also in the 155+ category and the some Pakis...

Whats your opinions on fast bowlers?

*Under 155kmph is not fast!

I dont trust any speed guns in Australia, something is not right there.

Any case Shaun Tait doesnt bowl plus he can only bowl 4 overs in a day before he is huffing and puffing

Do you want someone who can only play t20 because he gets too tired bowling any spell longer than two overs or do you want someone who can bowl you 145kph for 20 overs a day. Lee also only plays t20 and odi's now.

If you are looking at test cricket only aimer and roach are quicker then our quickest bowlers. Steyn can reach 150kph when he really tries and morne's quickest is 155kph.

The whole method of detecting the speed is totally flawed. One would think that they take the time the ball is released from the bowler to the time the ball reaches the batsmen and then use those distances and time to calculate the speed of the delivery, but that's not how it's done. Instead, they take the time from when the ball is released by the bowler to the moment it first strikes the pitch. This gives you a much, much faster speed that what it actually is. FAIL IMO.

Something also to remember with fast bowlers today, guys who play all three formats try to preserve their bodies while guys who only play one format goes full out in that one since that's all he has got. With the amount of cricket being played is just the way fastbowlers has to go if they want to play all three formats.

90mph is 140kmph? I can bowl that fast.
Over 150 is fast...

Which players can bowl that fast? Steyn is bowling slower and slower...

where is Tait in the world rankings, and where is Steyn

these days batsmen aren't as intimidated as they were when Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose, Lillee & Thomson were tearing them apart.

its the age of professionalism, sheer brute pace [160km/h +] without swing/consistency/line and length will travel just as far, if not further, than a long hop from an off-spinner.

Well T20 is about entertainment, so I would like to see bowlers bowl that fast and break cricket bats and stumps... or even just make the batsmen look like clumsy fool! :D
They cant burn themselves out in T20 cricket. Yip Tait and Lee are after that record, heard Ponting comment about it.

There arent many batsmen out there that can line up a 160kmph delivery, they hit and hope, obviously when they do get something on it it will travel, but thats not the point of this thread... economy and bowler rankings aside.

Whoever does the speed gun in South Africa should also add a couple of kph's to our bowlers speed when they play at home again :whistling: :whistling:

Tait sucks man. Put him in a test match and let's see him bowl at 160 throughout the day.

Guys like Steyn and Morkel could also hit 160 if they only bowled in one format.

Thanks, was at Tuks, I reached 143kmph :)

But clearly the ball kept hitting the point fielder otherwise we should be watching you in the SuperSport series.... ;)

I'm with those who are sceptical about the speed readings!

He won't last the first half an hour, never mind the day. He burns out and needs a rest after 2 overs. Which is why he doesn't played shield cricket in aus. In fact he virtually only plays their t20 comps.

Would you be willing to prove you can bowl at 140+?

Its not all about incredible speed. Pointless bowling 160 kph when it's short and down the leg side.

Its like those guys who think an Indycar is a better car than an F1 car because they have a higher top speed. Formula 1 > Indycar.

Similary Steyn > Tait.

Steyn is the ultimate bowler - quick and accurate.

Steyn should reach the 150's easily on the Aus pitches, that one in Melbourne where tait hit 160 ish was prepared for the bounce and speed,
