The steers rib thread reminded me.

How much should a half-chicken serving weigh? The chicken only (not the chips/salad/sides)

Nandos (Columbine, jhb south) weighed in at 362 grams. Is this normal?

It looked quite skraal, and the baking scale was on the table so figured why not weight in :D

Yeah...I've found that the DFC ones have more substance to them. Not sure the taste is better than KFC but at least its a good dose of chicken...

in SA at the moment, the average whole frozen chicken(catering) comes in at 1.2kg each.
alot of catering suppliers supply chicken that has a brine injected to them, usually 30% of weight is brine. i think you can do the math from there. upon grilling u going to loose 30 - 40% in weight.. if you cooking a stew/casserole/saucy dish u can look at 10-15% loss in weight.

So a Nandos chicken would therefore weigh 720g.

****ing drives me crazy, for less money go to a woolies and buy a real chicken. Not the doves soled by Nandos.

I had Nando's chicken with the family yesterday. My dad bought two whole chickens, a quarter chicken and three jumbo chips. The quarter chicken was truly pathetic for R32.50 - just a few mouthfulls. The whole chickens weren't worth close to R109.90, and there was nothing jumbo about the jumbo chips.

The food was quite nice, but we're definitely never supporting Nando's again. For less money we could have feasted at one of several local Portuguese joints and had far superior food and portion sizes.

correct, so it is pretty much in line with what OP found.

And do not think the Pick N Pay grilled chickens are any better. They are just drenched in fat. Those conveyor ovens dips them in their own fat every cycle.

Also the gland above its ass is never removed so the oil cooks out of that and goes into the dipping bucket.

That flavour is then distributed throughout the bird.
