I recently moved house and had to reactivate my ADSL. Since my ADSL line was with Cybersmart, I just told them my new residential address and my new landline and told them to activate my Account/ADSL at my new house. (My line is 4096 - up to 10240)

All of this took place on the 5th of December and it is now the 7th and the ADSL is already active.

I want to know if anyone else has has this or a similar experience?
If so, what ISP?
Also, if anyone knows how to get this done at this speed, share your knowledge.

Telkom-

Moving to a new residence, in this month...gave Telkom date, to deactivate current line and placed order for line at new place, -will get a new number as the exchange is different, no biggie, as we do not use the line for voice. Will advise how smooth it went, hoping, its 1-2-3 and all done. Have not had any complaints about the efficiency of the Hellkom as yet, holding thumbs!

Telkom has geared up it's game. We've done 4 installations over the last month and none of them took longer than 7 days. Obviously it comes down to available ports but the guys in Cape Town are on the ball, especially from the Tokai branch in the Southern Suburbs. Well done, Keep it up.

2 hours. From no service (no dropwire from pole) to order placement to installation to ADSL working and making first phone call. Telkom with Closer Plan 4.

Their call centre is still up to crap, wasted about 3 hours listening to the music, waiting for them call back, just to be put back in the queue when they did

Only bad experience I've has is with the call centres as mentioned above by Kenny.

The exception to this bad experience is the amazing experience with Telkom business. I know we are paying more per month for business line rental but it might actually be worth it being able to phone a different number and talking (almost immediately) to some clued up people on the other end - usually unscripted conversation ensues.

Otherwise my installation as previously mentioned went very smoothly and fast - went from being a business customer to home as well. Just have to check whether or not I'm running at 10240k as I am on the WWG+ exchange.

Activating ADSL on my line took all of 5 minutes... phone Telkom asking to activate it, and it was done right there, the lady on the phone still said it will take 2 days, but I entered i my ISP details in my modem and bam it worked immediately...

telkom is quick to activate lines but try cancelling and see how their service is and how long it takes

Ordered in the Telkom shop, got home in an hour and was activated, They were doing some work in the area at the time so that's perhaps the reason, What do they actually have to do to activate adsl on your line?

Depends on what infrastructure is in place. If you already have a physical line to your house then it should be pretty simple. A techie at the exchange has to reconfigure your port to the DSLAM (add a physical jumper cable), activate it on their system and then the ISP person will update the system and activate your service.

If there is no cable to your house (and there are spare ports on the DSLAM) a techie must be dispatched and he/she has to build the route back to a distribution point (DP). Then he/she must go the the street box and connect your line to a line from the DSLAM (with a jumper). He/she will then hand it over to follow the same route as above, excepting that he/she should by then be back at your house to test and make sure your service works.
