I have a client that has very slow internet access. We have built a media booking platform for them - they struggle to use it within their corporate network as their internet access is so painfully slow. The platform is hosted in a datacenter in the US - I want to move it to local hosting to speed up load times.

Out of the big local players - Hetzner, Web Africa, RSAWEB, Afrihost, etc etc who are the fastest in your opinion/experience.... I need lighting fast load times.

Appreciate any insight.

Depends on whether you guy with shared or dedicated hosted. Dedicated hosting usually are much more expensive than shared hosting. Shared hosting usually suffice, but can be super slow if the hosted dumps A LOT of websites on a single server.

You might want to look into virtual server hosting, while not a dedicated server, it has the benefits of a dedicated server in a shared hosting environment, and usually those don;t get overloaded as much as with the regular shared hosting. Only problem is, only a select few hosters do virtual server hosting.

Good point, sorry I should've specified... I want to setup a dedicated box

Cost is not an issue

Hey Charl - This reply is probably a tad late, but do not go for VPS, in my experience it's very slow when it comes to bulk mail delivery, and I mean very slow.

We had one and did a mailing campaign for (probably the biggest) design software company in the world, and although it took 3 hours to send to a database of 84000 people, it took 3 days to deliver to all the addresses.

Of course the data centre says it's not them and the email marketing application developers say it's not them, so, we moved to dedi and it seems fine now.

Cheers

Hmm you're advising against a virtual server and you justify that because you tried to send a mailing list to 84000 recipients using a virtual server? Firstly it's not advisable to use a virtual server for that amount of emails. Secondly, the emails could have been delayed due to the IP address of the server having a poor reputation.

Hi zoopedup,

You say you want fast how ever there are a number of factors involved in what makes things fast.
You can have the fastest connection in the world to a server that is equipped with desktop hardware, has SQL / MYSQL loaded onto it along with a web server while it serves 500 000 hits per day and I guarantee that its going to be slow.

If money is no object then I suggest that you invest in an ISP that will provide you with hardware and architecture which meets recommended requirements according to your clients usage, along with a load balanced devices.

Give me a shout if you need help.
