As the title asks, what is the fastest route to apply for a Telkom FTTH package?

Using the call centre, store, online chat, online form, email, mybroadband representative?

It's hard to say. I signed up for an adsl bandwidth increase with Telkom as an existing customer, spoke to an agent, got a confirmation SMS and then the order was still lost.

One option is to order through a 3rd party (Vox or WA)
This is the router I took but I don't know how it compares to going through Telkom.

Process was fairly painless with WA. Only problem is the give little to no feedback during the order process and the completely screwed up the original billing but it was sorted out.

There really is no shortcut unless you have contacts in the fibre installation department. Whichever avenue you take ultimately you have to be processed through the system which every point of entry uses. You can go instore and if you are lucky not have to wait in line and get an order processed there. That way you can get the consultant's name and a reference number. But you can also do this over the phone which has the convenience of not having to drive to the store. However you will wait a minimum of 30 minutes on the line (unless something crazy happens and your call gets answered before - I've never heard of this happening).

All in all it's a mission and will most likely involve you fighting Telkom to give them your money.

Good question, I tried phoning yesterday "Please note that we are experiencing high call volumes...". 30 minutes later, no answer.

I would wager that going to a store may be the most painless way of doing it.

That said when I (unsuccessfully - lack of infrastructure in my complex) applied for ADSL - I had an appointment for installation within a week of calling the call center...

VOX (called them to arrange) handled ours really quickly.

We were told that it could take up to 6 weeks, but the Telkom guys came out within 2 weeks. I must say that they Telkom guys were very jacked up. Was a pleasant experience. Went live yesterday.

Is it possible to order FTTH from the TelkomZA rep on mybroadband? Don't have time to wait for the call center.
