whats faster?

Mweb 4mb/s Uncapped
Afrihost 8MB/s uncapped


how fast could i average at normal after school times with these? ie. from like 13:00 to 19:00?
And how fast could i average at after hour times? ie. 20:00 --- higher

Mweb would be, they don't throttle the speed according to your usage. But shaping is active during the day
With Afrihost, you will get fullspeed uptoo a certain amount of usage and get throttled real bad..

What will you be downloading?

These uncapped things are just repackaged in a different way but all have some limitations.

Of course 8MB/s would be faster, since it should be 16x faster than 4Mb/s

Afrihost is reselling IS, so if you're going to be in the top 50% users then you will get throttled badly. Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do about that, since its not being throttled by Afrihost, but by IS! It would be worth while to go and read up on IS' new AUP.
My guess is that Afrihost would be faster as long as you don't download that much.

If you want to download 100GB+ then your speed would probably be better with Mweb, as long as you don't try and bypass their shaping.

I still think your best bet would be to get the 50GB Titan Complete 3 from WebAfrica if you're not going to be downloading more than 50GB!

Rapidshare, Hotfile and the rest are all HEAVILY shaped during the day and less so in the early morning. I'm not sure what they do with ftp. Anything to do with gaming is regarded as P2P, which also includes torrents. These are also de-prioritised and speeds are shaped. You will see an unstable ping in games; for example.

My latencies on the COD4 servers are fine: about 60-80ms on the Jhb servers when I'm playing from Stellenbosch (near Cpt).

Generally the latencies & download speeds should be fine after 18:00 already.
