Fathers day Laptop present

nothing wrong with that dell or their price, I have the dell price list in font of me and they not ripping you off. personally I prefer some of the Asus gaming laptops, but then you looking at a big pice jump, and you dad should be happy with a dell with a 3 year warranty.

Naaah, not looking for a gaming laptop. Like u said, its a big price jump, so for my dad the dell will be good :)

Dell would be awesome, and if he doesn't like it, we can always start adoption papers

Hahaha! If he doesnt like it, then im taking it for myself! I can always give him back his macbook which he loathes :)

So I know father's day is still a month away, however, I wanna start planning on buying my dad a laptop for fathers day. He is currently using a very old mac book which was given to him as a present (second hand), but its starting to show signs of failure. The screen is buggered, its slow as hell, and things crash quite often lately. Not to mention, he really dislikes Mac OSX.

I found this laptop on wootware, it seems like a very good laptop, has all the stuff he needs, and the price isn't that bad (I think).

Here is the link:

Don't have any experience with you guys. Perhaps someone that does have experience can give some feedback. Sorry, I do tend to get hesitant when buying from a new online store, or an online store I'v never dealt with. As you say "Subject to stock availability", maybe you should first check if you have/can get stock for the this item:

Hi Looney

Devan from MyBB has bought from us before, you could confirm with him.
We are also well known on Iphoneza Forums and we are registered resellers on Carbonite Forums

If you have any other queries please contact me or Nimz

Thanks

Even u buy a very expensive laptop, once the laptop get the virus or system has been damaged by some other program or not properly shut down, It will become very slow and ur dad will still have some complaints.

if you think the specs is no big difference, then compare after sale services, guarantee, warranties.

Every computer can get infected with some virus or worm, but that is fixable. Buying a low spec laptop however isnt. If im gonna buy a laptop, it needs to be good specced.

so after doing a lot of research and phone calls, i realised that i would never get as good of a deal at any retail/online store. So i contacted a buddy of mine and found out that he can get dell laptops at cost price directly from dell. So i have pretty much decided to go for that option.

here are the specs:

Dell Vostro 3550

15.6" Widescreen HD+LED (1366 x 768) Anti-glare
Intel® Core i5-2410 (2.3GHz)
4Gb (1x4Gb) 1333MHz DDR3
500GB (7200RPM)
8X DVD+/-RW
MS WIN 7 PRO (64BIT)
802.11(b,g,n) & Bluetooth
Fingerprint Reader
2MP Webcam
AMD® Radeon HD6630M 1Gb
3G/HSDPA included
6-cell 56WHr Li-Ion Battery*
3 Year Next Business Day

Total: R 7 799.00

I doubt any online store will be able to beat this price :)

Decent. Too bad he really dislikes Mac OS X. I have a spiffy new Macbook with nVidia graphics. It's got 5+ hours of battery life, looks new and is really fast.

Thanks for the offer, but I think my dad will rip out all his hair (and he doesn't have much) if he gets another Mac lol.

I can imagine. It does take a lot of getting used to. I know it took me a long and there was a lot of adjustment, and I'm a young (ish) geek. Also Office 2004 - ugh
