Which alcohols are the most fattening?

My drinking consists on average of Heineken's and the only shots I really have are Jagermeister. Occasonally Southern Comfort and Coke.

Also - how fattening is Coke compared to beer ?

huh?

Why would you ruin the purity that is alcohol with a question like that?

beer belly :(

I want to reduce it slightly, while still drinking. Apparantly is my choice of alcohol that isn't fantastic ...

Beer is very fattening, i lost 10 kgs just by stopping my beer habit.

It does depend on your body though, my dad was an alcoholic and drank beer and never gained a pound, but i got a beer belly.

Coke as well very fattening, my buddie drinks rum and coke and he brings 4l of coke with him to a braai, lets just say that's alot of sugar for one night.

Dolby if you have a beer gut, stop drinking beer man, trust me 10kgs was shed from body without even going to gym.

I drink j&b with water now, not very tasty but then again neither was beer. When summer comes around im going to do some gyming and remove whats left of gut which is not alot. I love that not having that beer gut anymore, stop beer if you have one.

Beer and white wine both contains a lot of calories. Where do you think men's beer bellies come from?

I smaak beer too much to give it up, and switching to "lite" (read watered down) is sacrilege.

Fortunately I don't have a BB. Dolby, just start exercising to burn off the extra kilos. No need to give up something you enjoy, maybe just drink a bit less of it?

Pornstar the problem with beer is actually the amount of yeast which swells your belly, you can do all the exercising you want but that swollen belly wont go down.

Calories you can burn off but the yeast will keep your belly swollen.

You want your BB gone drop the beer.

If I stop though - the belly becomes unswollen over time? :/

EDIT : Didn't see you last sentance.

Yup like i said its very simple, if beer gives you a BB the only way to bring it down is to totally stop beer.

I heard one beer is = 1 loaf of bread, now i use to drink on average around 20 black label's a week which = 20 loafs of bread.

Strange thing is beer does not make everyone put on weight, some people it makes no difference at all.

I might be wrong, but afaik it's not the alcohol that makes you fat.

The yeast used in the beer making process is what is to blame for beer belly :)

Can't say I've ever heard that before.

Bwana i know about BB because i had one.

Go look at a guy with a BB, Their stomachs are swollen, if they where not swollen the fat would hang would not stretch out.

Go look at alot of men with BB man, You will notice that most of the time they are not fat just have a swollen belly.

A lot of people who think they have beer bellies actually have yeast bellies.
Their bellies – swollen and distended – look as if they are surrounded by fat.
In reality, they are bloated from excessive presence of yeast.
One source of this yeast may indeed be from beer - which leads many people to think that they have beer bellies - but even people who never touch beer can develop yeast bellies.
This is, in fact, an extremely common occurrence.
Yeast is a natural nutritional fungus that is always present in the intestines, and also in other mucosal tissues, including those of the sinuses and throat. Yeast is kept at healthy levels by the body’s friendly, probiotic bacteria, which are particularly abundant in the gut. Unfortunately, though, yeast can proliferate, and kill the friendly bacteria around it.
Factors that cause this include:

* Eating too much yeast, in substances such as bread or beer.
* Taking antibiotics, which kill the friendly bacteria that control yeast.
* Consuming foods that support yeast growth, such as sugar and vinegar.
* Inhaling other fungi, such as mildew, or mold.

When yeast becomes too abundant, it is identified by the body as a foreign invader, which triggers the immune response. The immune response causes feelings of fatigue, malaise, weakness, and flu-like symptoms.
These symptoms of excessive yeast production strike millions of people every day, and many of these people misinterpret the symptoms as those of a minor illness. Some people even take antibiotics for the problem, which kills even more friendly bacteria, and makes things worse.
When yeast growth becomes excessive, it ferments foods in the intestines, and causes indigestion and swelling. It especially ferments sweets, as well as foods that are hard to digest, such as dairy products. This is the main reason yeast overgrowth causes the gut to swell, creating a classic “yeast belly.” In the sinuses and nasal cavities, yeast can also cause swelling, in addition to other allergy-like symptoms.
These symptoms are similar to those caused by food reactions, and they can exacerbate the symptoms of food reactions (especially those caused by yeasty foods, such as bread).
If you seem to become bloated when you drink beer, eat baked goods, or take antibiotics, you may have excessive yeast, and you should try to kill it.
Your To Do List:

* Stop eating the foods that create it and aggravate it, including baked goods, beer, sugar, vinegar, and pickled foods.
* Take probiotics, such as acidophilus or our protein complete. They will boost your healthy bacteria. Another great product is Trinity > found in most health food stores but pretty pricy .
* Take natural fungus-killers, such as garlic, caprylic acid, echinacea, or goldenseal – either separately, or in an anti-yeast supplement, available in health food

This is the site that stopped me drinking beer, after i read this article i found out that whiskey and water is the least fattening alcohol you can drink.

You must remember that alchohol comes from fruit etc. so no matter which alcohol u consume you will be getting in alot of empty calories. Switching between beer and coke will bring you no where. but try your drinks with diet coke/sprite. those contain no sugar, and you should definately cut out alot of calories. a can of coke contains about 15-20g of carbs per 100ml. that means about 3teaspoons sugar per 100ml. sugar is a big no no if you want to shed some weight.

can anyone tell me if drinking gin and tonics is a healthy option? Im not too sure about tonic?

Your liver can't metabolize alcohol and fat at the same time. It will always get rid of the toxic substance (alcohol) first. That means that as long as there's alcohol in your system you won't be burning any body fat. If you have one or two drinks, you might stall your fat loss for a few hours. If you have quite a few drinks, it might be as long as four days before you're metabolizing fat again.

So any drink will make you fat, or at least slow your weight loss. However, combining that with the loaf of bread that is beer just fuels the fire (a lot!).

EDIT: so as long as you eat no fats or sugars when drinking you'll be fine. Whiskey and water, anyone?
