Fault index for cell phones?

Just about every comment made here finds its way into the organisation. We've had quite a few products / ideas implemented, first requested here. So, on average, the process is working well.

I also see some nasty experiences with faulty phones and never ending repair procedures. And in practice, one does hear even more nasty stories from less geek inclined users than us lurking on these forums.

Now the question:

Would it be possible to create a phone/manufacturers fault index - eg number of repairs required in first 2 years of 1000 phones?

It would be nice to know before deciding on a phone how the manufacturer performed during the past 2 years on phone reliability.

Similar it would be nice to know the real (average) life expectancy of a battery.

Excellent idea I think. Seeing as most of us upgrade at least once in a two year period, could be very useful info

I think more Nokias are in for repairs than any other phone.
Some say its because more Nokias are sold therefore they have higher repairs.

My personal feeling, if all those Nokia users say whats the exact fault with the phone... there would be 2 main ones that stick out, freezing and dropped calls.... mainly symbian.

a percentage for repairs per volume would eliminate any differences in the number of phones sold...

maybe even split the repair percentage into two section: hardware and software repairs.

MOST faults are software related, but it would be interesting to see which manufacturer had the highest and lowest hardware reliability as well...

Maybe even break it down more, into specific phone models.

The problem with this is at that manufacturers are the only reliable source for these figures and i doubt they're gonna freely part accurately with this information.
