As from installation, my ADSL line was exstremely unreliable. After struggling with Telkom for about 6 months, they discovered two serious issues on my line. My line was tapped (dead line) and the DP / port 's connection was weak. Especially in rainy weather the ADSL connection dropped.

Anyone out there with similar problems? Anyway to claim my ADSL line charges back from Tellkom? Contact / fax details?

As for getting ADSL line charges back from Telkom:

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

Surely you jest?

I've also had trouble in rainy weather. I seem to have a fault which comes and goes at will. What I do to get it to come right is phone the telephone line that the ADSL is connected to (in my case my fax line) and then it comes right for about a day - or 15 minutes, depending on where the moon is.

The real trouble comes when trying to explain this to Telkom.

Telkom - "Is the line working now"

Me - "No, it is not working"

Me - "But, oddly enought, if I phone the telephone line that the ADSL runs on, it will work again. [Dialling with cellphone] There, I've phoned the line and I see it's running again"

Telkom - "I'm testing your line

[Wait for three minutes]

According to my system there is no fault - it's working fine."

Me - "Yes, yes, we have estabilshed that the line is working - for now. Perhaps I'm not explaining myself correctly, there is an intermittent fault on my ADSL line. I think there is trouble on the actual copper at my house - or up the road. Can you send someone to check it out."

Telkom - [Again] "Is the line working now?

Me - "Yes, it is working right now"

Telkom - "So there is no fault"

Me - "Not right now - but there will be one tomorrow, or in 15 minutes. It's an intermittent fault."

Telkom - "But it's working right now, so there is no fault"

Me - "You $&#@ idiot. It's working right now only because I phoned the line to get it going again. Don't ask me why this is the case. It just is. But tomorrow, it won't work. I'll need to call it again. And the next day, and then the next day.

Telkom - "Please don't shout at me."

Me - "Okay - Maybe I'm not explaining myself correctly. This morning, the ADSL line was down. So I phoned the telephone line to get it to work again. Now it works only because I phoned the line. There must be some kind of loose connection which only connects when you make a call to the telephone line or something like that. Tomorrow, especially if it rains, it will not work again. It's an intermittent fault. That is what an intermittent fault is. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not.

Telkom - "According to my system, there is no fault on the line."

Me - "Yes the line is working right now."

Telkom - "So there is no fault?"

Me - Click

I now just phone my fax line every time the stupid thing goes down and eagerly await the day when this does not work either - so that they can come around and actually fix the problem.

Plug the telephone line into the mains using a method where you don't get electrocuted.

It should seal the loose wire succesfully, or burn it right out.

When Telkom comeover to arrest you when they locate the point on the exchange where the surge happened, then you'll get your line working again.

hmmm, if it is not broken it cannot be fixed. The problem is that you are "fixing" the line yourself before you call Telkom. Leave it broken and then they will have a better chance of seeing the problem, try telling them that there is a dry joint somewhere on the line.

More hmmmm - I wonder if the charge would include attempted murder if I follow the above instructions while speaking to said Telkom operator at the same time?

Thats wierd, mine works exactly opposite to what Communicat said; everytime i pick up the phone to make a call my DSL line dies. Quite irratating if you logged in or busy with a DL, cos it times-out or logs you out. Telkom you suck.
Ive had numerous calls to telkom like he mentioned but after about a year and a half ive given up hopeing for a repair truck to swing by and sort it out.

Are you using a low-pass filter on the phone?

Just curious... Do I use the blue & brown cable to connect to my ADSL line, or just brown and the green??

:) :) :)
