Hey guys. I got my Galaxy S4 around 6 months ago. Around 4 months ago, the screen started flashing for like half a second and then went on as normal. This started happening more often and I noticed that the screen flashes bright and then goes black and shows the time at the top of the screen.
So a few weeks later my friend gets an S4 with an S view cover. When the cover closes, the screen goes black and shows the time at the top of the screen, exactly the same screen that is flashed on my phone. I tested it with a magnet, when I bring it close to the top left side of my phone, the screen goes black and shows the clock. I can replicate the screen flashing problem that I get when by placing the magnet near the phone for a very short amount of time and taking it away.
The magnetic sensor is clearly faulty, as it picks up magnets that do not exist. It happens randomly when I use the phone and can happen up to 6 times in 30 seconds. It even happens when the phone is laying on the table. The screen is off, suddenly flashes on and then goes off again after a few seconds.
I've ran the USSD code *#0*#, but the sensor seems to work fine there. I've tried disabling the magnetic sensor, but it seems like it's not possible.
So my biggest problem is that I've rooted my phone (which voids the warranty - and no, the problem was there before I rooted my phone). I rooted it and loaded a custom ROM because I thought it was just a bug in the stock ROM. Since then I've tried 4-5 different custom ROMS and even different stock roms. The problem persists in all ROMs.
I don't have insurance, so my best thought has been to drop my phone in the pool and claim the ADH warranty for water damage. So my question to you guys is, do they replace the device when there is water damage, or just replace the broken components? I really just want to get this problem sorted in the easiest way, I don't even mind if I have to pay a bit.
Thanks
