Faulty Router?

I have a Netgear DGN2200 that's 2 months old, it's been going fine since I've had it up until this weekend. I've been experiencing crazy slow internet in the last week that I put down to a line fault in the area. In the past I've been able to switch between my different ISP accounts no problem, yesterday when I tried to switch the red light "no internet access" light started burning, this lasted about 30 minutes. Since then every time I reboot the router (been trying to figure out the problem) the red light comes on and I have no internet access for 30mins to 2 hours, at which point the light turns green and internet access is restored (albeit crazy slow as for the past week). I was on the phone with telkom earlier and they tested my line, reset ports and said everything is working their side. So... this must be a router problem then? Unfortunately I don't have a spare router to test for sure :(

Yes. We have the netgear router, and it would constantly drop the connection, perform very slowly, or restart, because it was always overheating. Applying a fan and heatsink resolved the problem. If the fan goes off, it freezes within 5 minutes, every time.
I would not recommend Netgear to anyone.

Yes, I updated the firmware today when the connection eventually came back up. It's DGN 2200v4.
And sorry, bit of a noob, but is this what you're looking for in terms of line stats?
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 416 kbps 64 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 8.0 db

Well there's your problem, those stats suck, are your POTS filters connected/in working order?

Ouch. Telkom was lying to you when they said the line was fine. Test the line with a different router but I doubt that would help very much, if problems persist log a fault with Telkom.

Yeah they're connected/working fine. Sigh, damn you telkom :( I have logged a fault with them, but we all know how long that could take to get sorted :/ Will try borrow a router this week just to be 100% sure that's not the problem or contributing to the issue in any way.

Been having similar issues myself lately, also in Cape Town (Tygervalley area). Cybersmart did the usual resetting and checking from their side and all seemed ok. They logged call with Telkom. Techie came out about 2 days later (pretty quick!) and immediately plugged in his own modem. His modem worked so no line problem. My Billion 400G has quite a number of years under the belt so wasn't a surprise.
Then I hooked up my old Zyxel single port modem (no router) and internet worked fine. So dashed out to buy fancy new modem-router in a frenzie. Got a Belkin N600 Dualband. Same problem as you, line just dropped for no reason and eventually no matter how much rebooting it wouldn't connect again. Bit off Googling and found firmware upgrade and Bob's my uncle. Belkin's support site said the firmware upgrade was to support longer ISP username's...solved my problem.
