I don't know if there is an issue with my S3 since my upgrade to Jellybean or if it is a Cell C Issue.

Eversince my upgrade I keep losing data connection. If I drive from one area to another, basically when I change towers, then this happens. Sometimes I am unable to even make calls.

I have to either restart my phone or switch my phone to airplane mode then back to normal again and then data will work.

I have to do this maybe 4 or 5 times a day. THis is really annoying?

Anyone else have this issue or have any idea's what could be possibly causing this ?

Have you tried flashing a new ROM to rule out a problem with the phone?

Sounds like it is the ROM - is it a custom ROM or official?

This happens to me too, but on an iPhone 4. I'm in Sandton using MTN, and when my phone goes from 3G area into Edge area (with MTN almost everywhere is EDGE), it says "NO SERVICE" at the top and sometimes the only way to get service again is with a restart.

It's happening to a lot of other people I know too, on MTN, so I know it can't be my phone, must be the network in some areas.

If I can add my two cents after my dad's S3 4.1 update it had no problems like this. He adores his phone except that everyone at work want to play with it and mess up his settings and home screens lol

Happens to me on Cell C with my 10.1 Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Note and my Nokia Lumia 920. Stuck a Vadacom sim in them and they all work fine. I now have a pre-paid vodacom sim in my tablet which makes a wifi hotspot for my phone to use.

It is quite annoying of CellC to say the least :(

Why dont you re install the ROM.
There is a new version - 4.1.2 out for XFE users (whatever that is).
Upgrade to that via Kies or Odin and take it from there.

I haven't experienced this problem with stock ICS or CM10 or CM10.1 on MTN in Cape Town

How's your battery on CM10.1? Noticeably worse for me coming from 4.1.2...

I was on the December 23 2012 Nightly - it was decent but then a friend on December 26 was having some issues with reduced battery...

I used that for 8 days before getting the Sudden Death Screen (wouldn't pass the Samsung logo on boot) so I'll let you know further once I get it back from Smartlab :(

Thanks guys for all the replies

I am on the stock rom. I must say I am leaning more towards Cell C as being the problem but I may be wrong.

When I lived in Cape Town I had this issue maybe once or twice a week but since I relocated to Durban I have this issue daily. In some areas of Durban I can barely get decent coverage.

Maybe I will try using an MTN or Vodacom SIM just to test if the issue persists.

Really annoying issue though.
