I got great feedback on the DVD Decrypter thread so maybe I'll be lucky again...

I have a folder on Win XP containing avi and mpg files.

When I open the folder in details mode, without clicking any file it will hang Win Explorer.

There must be one or more files that are ' faulty' in some way but how do I test which are the guilty party?

If I copy this folder to Mvix and access it, the Mvix will hang and I will need to shut it down and restart.

Any ideas?

About 40 avi and mpg files in the folder, between 500 MB AND I Gig each.

My other ' movies dir has over 150 divx files at around 1.5 gig each and gives me no problem.

Pc - 2 Gig Ram, core 2 duo...usual stuff.

Two things you could try:

Cruise over to the folder in dos and delete the Desktop.ini.

Explorer==>Tools==>Folder options==>View==>Do not cache tumbnails

ETA: Just saw you said details, not tumbnails.:rolleyes:

you can also use a tweakUI program to turn off AVI previewing in Windows XP... I know there is a reg. fix for it bundled with autopatcher... but I am sure you can Google it.

Then, when you find the faulty file.. pass it through ZC Video Converter to fix the file.

Does avi preview refer to mpeg as well or just avi ?

And yup... I can wait an hour , it will still hang.

I remember having something like avi synth which used to pop up when I opened this folder - but did a clean install and just not sure which app or plugin I had loaded which detected file errors in this folder.

All a bit vague I'm afraid.

Not sure its the avi preview causing the problem as the Mvix doesnt preview ... and just hangs when accessing the folder.
