Hi
I have Western Digital drive Model: WD800BB it was manufactured in 2005, now the problem I have is the circuit board has blown and I can’t get access to the drive, I have gotten some quotes to retrieve my info but There is no Way I can Afford R3000 – R5000 to recover my information, and all they are going to do is just use a another circuit board, Is there anybody that can do it for much cheaper? Or have a circuit board for me that is just lying around.
I would greatly appreciate if you guys could give me any extra advice in what I could do to get my information back.

Thanks;)

Get another HDD of the exact same make and model, transfer the circuit board, and you should be able to get your data back (if the spindle motor and voice coil is undamaged by whatever blew the IC in the first place).

Yes that will work. 3-5k is still cheap! Normaly you pay about 5-10k per GB.

Hi The_Librarian

Thanks , but thats the exact problem i am having is to find the same model drive, and hopeing any one of you guys might have one or know where i can get one

Thanks

Hi there

I strongly recommend you talking to the guys at www.cssi.co.za (Computer Storage Services). They will be able to recover your data and their prices are very reasonable... BUT since you want to avoid that route, I'll still recommend talking to them since they are (one of) the importers of WD drives and only sell them.

They sorted me out with a faulty drive (Seagate, which I replaced with a WD bought from them) about 2 months ago.

Strongs man!

Thank you FuNkEr i will definitely give them a call, thanks all for all your help so far

WD800BB Recovery

Hi Guys I have 2 of these drives that have the same problem, I do have a data recovery business that I do over weekends and have purchased 2 drives for the boards I hope that this will assist me in getting the data off and that the rest of the drive is still ok, If this works you are all welcome to contact me and I will help recover your data for a very very small fee. I will keep you posted and let you know if the drive has only this problem as what causes this to happen is still uncertain to me.:)
