That is true, security built into t.38 protocol is quite advanced especially in regard to tampering during transmission.

Disclaimer: I once had to develop and a implement t.38 (fax) solution in years gone past. What a ball ache it was.

Secure email should be as secure as using a fax.
Content can also be added to a password protected zip-file for added security.
