Faxing through a router?

How would it work? Do you need capable software or a server? Google spits out stuff about Fax over IP, but there's no how to's.

It's actually silly if you think about it, a 56k modem user can fax, but not a broadband user? :D

I know about fax2mail, I've got a fax2mail account, but I would love to do it through my router ;)
 
The only way i know is if you have a pabx pc connected to the router and that pc has a isdn modem to do the faxing. Broadband cant do the fax thing, its either 56k or isdn. But i dont have much expertise in this field, just shared what i know works for me

You need to use a plain old fax modem and plug it into your line - with a filter, just as you would a telephone.
 
Wow, just shows the advancing technologies! LOL! Why not build a fax chip and extra line port into a normal household router? ;) :D

Well faxing in itself isnt exactly an advanced technology. ;)
