faxt to 086 numbers over adsl

We fax out over an adsl line without any problem to normal exchange fax numbers. However, if we need to fax to a fax-to-mail number ie 086..., faxing fails every time. Is this a know issue, or just my issue?

We have the same problem, but I know why. Due to "clip-on fraud" we had to disable the fax line to make any calls where an international dialing code is used. For some reason the 086 numbers appear to be taken as just that and therefore the call can't be made. This "block" is done at the Telkom exchange to ensure that we don't get surprise R 50 000.00 phone bills again. To be able to fax to 086 numbers, we have to take one of the normal phone lines coming from the PABX, plug it into the fax machine, dial 0, and off you go.

Not sure if it might be same thing your side, maybe you could check with Telkom if you have a similar exchange "block" thingy.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check with Telkom, BUT, would it not follow that if I try and fax over the adsl line to an international destination, this should fail as well. In our case, we can fax to London etc, but not to an 086 number...

Hmm yes then you have a different problem, I would think. Could it be that your faxmachine can't communicate with whatever machine is on the otherside of the 086 number? We recently had to purchase a new fax machine and get rid of the old doorstop model as it was failing communication with some machines, more so with inteernal computer fax modems.
