FDD Problems

Hey all, tried searching for this problem, but only got numerous other ones. Here goes...

After installing XP for the third time - it keeps on crashing for no reason (first this then that etc) I noticed that it had installed my fdd. Which is wierd..... because.... I don't have one. I think this is causing all my problems and switching it off in device manager does not work. Please help me.

By the way, I tried using the PC with everything stripped but the HDD and RAM and it's still showing and still buggering up. I'm certain it's because of this Phantom FDD.

try to set your bios to default settings

Or try to disable the fdd in the bios.

try to disable "Automatic Restart" after System Failure and posting the error message of the blue screen:
Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Advanced

Forget about the FDD and start stressing about the crashes. A clean install of XP doesn't just crash...either you have a hardware problem (e.g. bad RAM) or you have bad drivers.

I disabled the FDD - everything is running sweetly now. no crashes in the last day. it took around 2 hours (browsing and listening to music) on clean install of xp pro SP3 for the bastard to crash. ergo - it was the non existant fdd mucking about. im thinking that it could have been that messing up the various irqs (tho i dont know all that much so this is a stab in the dark). hopefully have put my woes behind me! cheers!
