I enjoy EVE... its a lot slower than the other MMOs, and doesn't require 100% active involvement to play :)

It just takes years of character development ;)

Great game though and I loved the scenary. I still have a m8 that has / had around 5 accounts at one stage.

I think it's USD15/mo., was about a month ago. I think you get a 21-day trial period now.

B

Yeah $14.95 = +-R150 a month... The 21 day free trial only applies to Steam users (you have to download the entire client from steam to get that trial). Alternatively theres the standard 14day free trial that you can access from www.eve-online.com

Can we tailor these stories to make them relevant to South Africa. How much bandwidth does a session of two or three hours use, can we test how playable it is on various different accounts? (iBurst, the various Neotel offerings, etc)

Eve uses about 5-10mb bandwidth an hour, hardly cap consuming. You can also play it on dial up, GPRS, iburst, 3g , DSl whatever you like.

Ive played it using both Telkom and Openweb accounts. No hassles whatsoever.

Yeah, bandwidth usage is very low, think the most I ever used was about 12Mb.

If poor latencies don't affect gameplay too much and it uses this little bandwidth Eve could be an excellent choice for the South African market.

EVE has been out for years - it's in its 6th year, May 6 is celebration of original release. It's one of the oldest MMO's and among one of the most successful. They are still breaking records, recently they hit their highest concurrent logons in the 51000+ range.
It does handle slow connections and high latency very well, i.e. lag - in that you think you're flying and then you just see your shields taking damage :D

The servers that run the Eve universe has been cutting edge since release :D
In EVE theres so much information to learn that the beginning is hard...http://www.eve-au.com/eve-curve.jpg
