MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Champion Roger Federer survived a massive scare at the Australian Open on Saturday, scrambling to a 6-7 7-6 5-7 6-1 10-8 third-round victory over Serb Janko Tipsarevic.

With Federer strangely off-color, a huge shock looked a real possibility as world number 49 Tipsarevic led by two sets to one, but the top seed came through a tense final set to take his place in the last 16.

A sluggish Federer lost the first set, having served for it at 5-3, but hit back to level, only to lose the third after holding two set points on the Tipsarevic serve in the 10th game.

But Federer, chasing his 13th grand slam title, leveled and after a tense final set, broke in the 17th game and served out to set up a clash with Czech 13th seed Tomas Berdych or Juan Monaco, the 21st seed from Argentina.

Bleh, I lost interest in tennis after Becker, Agassi, Sampras, Ivanisevic etc. retired.

that guy was bladdy good and gave Federer a good run for his money. he will definitely be up there in the rankings one day.

Why?
Not sure, I guess the fancy colours don't do it for me :D

But seriously, I think the game had a different sort of feel to it back then. The '92 Wimbledon final between Agassi and Ivansevic was undoubtedly the best match I've ever seen. The best returner of the time vs. the biggest server.

What was the last grand slam Goran won? Was his final year too, I think. Was it Wimbledon or the French Open? That was a VGG :D

Third seed Novak Djokovic stunned world number one and defending champion Roger Federer to reach the Australian Open final with a 7-5 6-3 7-6 (7-5) victory.

The second seed, Rafael Nadal also lost his semi-final. Two big upsets!

Watched the end. He deserved that win. I like Federer, but it is a good match when he gets beaten. They both played brilliant tennis.

Federer has been blowing hot and cold lately. not his best ATM. at least now it's more exciting that we have a different final. it gets kinda boring when one or two men run the show all the time.
