Hi Guys,

I want to install Fedora on a USB flash drive. Including all the tools (Jboss, Eclipse, etc) I'd need for JSP development. I have everything to get that going, but I am wondering on how big my USB flash drive needs to be. Would 8 gig be enough? I just need it for development, ie. my mail and other personal documents wont be on the drive. And yes, I know it will be slow. But its for a proof of concept and demo scenario I am planning for, not for permanent work.

Tx much
:)

I just did a format of a HDD with that setup a few days ago. I never checked the size...

Anyway, I think you will be safe with a 16GB flash drive. The 8GB might just be a little too small. Anyone else got an idea of the possible size?

well. just check how big the installation is / was on your HDD :)

Honestly, you could install Fedora, or most Linux's, on about 800MB space. But it all depends on what extra applications you need apart from the base install.

I just know that the complete packages of Ferdora 13 can occupy over 9GB of disk space. He probably won't install everything there is, but I think he has to remember that other files he might want to save on it may also eat some space.

A 16GB flash drive is safe with the info he gave us, but a 8GB can do if he only needs a few of the additional packages and does not intend to save much/anything else on the drive.

Are you talking about Fedora 13 that can be stripped down to 800mb?

:P not to be pedantic or anything :D

I managed to reclaim a 40 gig 2.5 inch drive, so I am going to use that instead. And I am trying Fedora 14. Now I just need to make some time to get that all sorted...
