Hi,
I've just registered on the forum having followed it as an observer for a while. I've decided to go with Vodacom 3 G and am about to get a 3G PCMCIA card. I run Fedora Core 3 on a 1.8GHz Centrino laptop with 1MB RAM.

What would the recommendations on the forum be in terms of ease of installation and use of either the Options or the Novatel card be running with the above configuration?

Cheers,
Aisne

Hey Aisne,

My prev post seems to have gone to /dev/null :)

Basiclly, both cards should work 100%. I have found a bug in usbserial.c - the kernel driver - that registers the card as /dev/<NULL>0 etc.

I have requested a fix but havn't followed it up. I will look into again, but since I compile my own kernels it is hard to keep track of FC3/Mandrake/Suse.

Maybe you can PM me the output of uname -a

Other then that I use wvdial for the dialing, cause most apps/applets support it, esp the gnome ones. I have a nice config file that I will share and you can change to suite your needs.

Drop me a reply with what card you decide on :)

Laterz !

It is quit simple to get the 3G card working with Fedora 3, I used KPPP (GUI modem dailer) with very little changes that needed to be made. Got it working in a hour or 2 with ZERO knowledge of linux. Just need the correct web pages for reference. It works better than in windows, connects and disconnects faster.
