Didn't even think about doing that actually. I know the last time I used Ubuntu and tried that it fscked things up pretty good, I am using 12.10 now though so they probably fixed that.

Full instructions here. I successfully did it that way. You can now run Unity and Gnome.

Right now I am thinking of trying Lubuntu. Only recently learnt about it. On my new, but under performing Toshiba laptop I think I will give it a try:

I'm running the LXDE Fedora Spin on another machine, not my favourite DE. It has it's quirks (like why is it such a mission to auto start apps on login), but it is quick.
