Ferrari SP51

The latest addition to the Prancing Horse's One-Off series, the Ferrari SP51, was unveiled and joins the most exclusive group in Maranello's range: unique, absolutely bespoke cars crafted to the specifications of a client, making them the very pinnacle of Ferrari's customisation scope and range.

Designed by the Flavio Manzoni-headed Ferrari Styling Centre, the SP51 is a front-engined V12 spider based on the 812 GTS platform from which it inherits its layout, chassis and engine. At first sight, the stunning new car's most striking characteristic is its total absence of a roof, making it an authentic roadster in every respect, accentuating both its sporty character and ability to captivate both visually and in terms of en plein air driving exhilaration.

Unsurprisingly, the SP51's aerodynamics required meticulous honing in a process involving CFD simulations, wind tunnel and dynamic testing to guarantee not just the ultimate in comfort in the cabin, but also the same standard of acoustic comfort and wind feel as the car that inspired it.

The Ferrari SP51's styling is both powerful and harmonious, thanks to its seamlessly muscular, undulating surfaces. Its forms are modern, sinuous and sensual at once, in great part as a result of the extensive use of bare carbon-fibre both on the exterior and in the cabin. The trim on the bonnet is particularly striking as it dynamically frames the two air vents.

The new Ferrari SP51 is an entirely roofless V12 one-off

Latest Special Projects creation drops a new body onto 812 GTS mechanicals

The economy is on the slide, winter is fast approaching and BMW actually thinks the XM isn’t a hideous waste of time and metal. There are many reasons to be un-cheerful at the moment, friends, but here’s a ray of sunshine courtesy of Ferrari’s Special Projects skunkworks. Its latest one-off creation is this: the SP51.

Commissioned by one of Ferrari’s most loyal Taiwan-based collectors, the SP51 is the answer to the question ‘what if I wanted an 812 GTS, but with no folding roof whatsoever, and an entirely bespoke body?’ This is the result: a unique V12 roadster with a windscreen (unlike the SP1 and SP2 Monza) but shorn of the weight and complication of a motorised roof.

Underneath, the SP51 retains the 812’s 6.5-litre, 789bhp V12 and running gear, so it’s still a 200mph ear-shredding supercar. Ferrari says it subjected the bodywork to lots of computer testing to make sure it would have no more buffeting or drag than the regular 812.

Ferrari SP51 is 789bhp 812 GTS-based one-off

Bespoke Ferrari has 6.5-litre V12 and 410 S design cues

This is the latest creation from Ferrari's bespoke division: a 789bhp roadster based on the Ferrari 812 GTS.

Called the SP51 – named for being the company's 51st special project car – and built as a one-off for a Taiwan-based client, it comes with an array of unique features including specially designed headlights, diamond-cut wheels and a bespoke Rosso Passionale paint colour.

It shares all of its underpinnings with the 812 GTS, including its layout, chassis and monstrous front-mounted 6.5-litre V12, which revs all the way to 8500rpm. Although performance details have yet to be released, expect figures similar to the 812’s sub-3.0sec 0-62mph time and 211mph top speed.

Latest Ferrari One-Off Based On 812 GTS Called SP51

The Ferrari one-offs are for the most important clients of the brand and the latest to join the rather special projects is called the SP51.

As the title suggests, this creation is based on the 812 GTS which means it packs the magnificent 6.5-litre V12 producing 789 hp (580 kW) which sits under the long sculted bonnet.

As far as one-offs go, this one is pretty restrained which is a good thing but some new features really give it a whole new look.

The headlights and taillights are unique while the front grille is larger and bears exposed carbon fibre. There’s a sharp blade element behind the wheel wells, also made out of carbon.

Unlike the donor 812 GTS, which features a retractable hard top, the SP51 skips the roof altogether to embody the true roadster spirit. However, aerodynamic modifications developed in the wind tunnel ensure performance and comfort is similar to the donor car, according to Ferrari. That results in a carbon fibre sill with unique body detailing that sits just above the driver’s head, giving the SP51 its distinctive shape.
