So I was wondering about a few things about overclocking. Hope you can help.

1. I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ Stock 2.66Ghz with stock cooler. It idles at around 31 degrees according to CoreTemp 0.99.5 and at around 38 degrees according to SIW. I read that this CPU is a very good overclocker and some guys have them OC'd beyond 4Ghz. My motherboard is an Intel DQ35JO which doesn't have options in the BIOS to overclock the CPU. I don't want to overclock much, just to maybe 3.0Ghz for the OC experience. So my question is whether there is a way to OC even if the BIOS doesn't support it.

2. I have 4 x 1GB DDR2 800 Ram. The first pair is from Hyundai Electronics with Memory Timings 5-5-5-18-23. The second pair is from Samsung with Memory Timings 6-6-6-18-24. My first question is whether it's a problem that the timings differ. My second question is if there is a risk to overclocking the RAM slightly. My BIOS does support changing the memory timings.

3. Anyone know where I can buy compressed air for cleaning my PC? It's getting pretty dusty after 2 years.

I am planning on applying new thermal grease to my CPU tomorrow so that temperatures should come down a little.

Also, download Prime95, run it (small FFTs test) with the cpu at stock and then after 5 minutes or so check your cpu temp.

Idle temp doesn't mean much

www.overclock.net and forums.extremeoverclocking.net are fantastic resources with people giving adequate advice on both board-specific and chip-specific issues and with guides to overclock them. There's also a few guides on tomshardware.com with step-by-step instructions.

Okay, I ran Prime95 FFTs for 5 minutes. CoreTemp reported a maximum of 67 degrees and SIW reported a maximum of 71 degrees. Now I know that CPU temps shouldn't go above 60 degrees, but I never really stress my CPU to 100% like this test did. Also, my CPU heat sink is VERY dusty, so I'm sure it will do much better after a good clean and new thermal grease.

Still busy checking out SetFSB...

I bought compressed air at a stationery shop in Sandton City (the one next to the Wimpy). You should be able to find this at typical poky gadget shops at flea markets too... oh and BTW it's WELL worth it, the magic spray for computers, almost like Q20 is the magic spray for rust.

or take your pc to the local garage. just blow out some air first away from your pc to make sure no water has accumulated in the pipes.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find some compressed air.

I overclocked my CPU just a little. Changed the FSB from 333Mhz to 350Mhz. And then my PC froze up. After restart, everything seems fine again. So how is it possible that such a small overclock didn't work? It froze instantly so there wasn't really time to overheat or anything. Any help?

Oh, can anybody shed some light on my question regarding memory timings?

Timing will be set automatically to the higher values for stability, use memset to set it down to 6-5-5-18 to see if the 6-6-6-18 can cope...I know the first value is usually un-changeable.

Anyways, if ur m/board supports it software overclocking is possible with clockgen and earlier mentioned, setfsb. Google to see if it works.

Otherwise there's also the option to do a BSEL pad mod, but I dunno if ur board supports 1600FSB or can it change multiplers so I wont recommend you to even bother looking it up.
