Ffs !!!!

I think everybody is missing the whole point. No matter how bad this offer seems, it's still better than having no other options. Even if this seems to have no effect on the other contenders, just keep watching. Something is bound to change. The others have no choice but to follow suit. It might take a while, but it WILL happen.

Actualy we do have other options (Vodacom/MTN/iBurst/Sentech)

I was referring to alternatives to Telkom. If you compare the Neotel offerings to Vodacom/MTN/iBurst/Sentech...there shouldn't be any complaints. I think Neotel has done far more for broadband in South Africa in their first days than any of the others. I just hope enough people support them. I for one will!

I will be keeping my telkom line untill they can port the number for me. I will be adding the uncapped offering from Neotel though.

Again, so you don't need a telephone and broadband?
I mean - either you are paying the extra R100+ rental for a telephone or you don't have a telephone...

So what you are saying is Neotel is also charging me extra for the phone? Well, maybe. The thing is...I need the phone, and I want the phone. This might not be ideal for some people, but for others it's great. I think the main reason why people are complaining...is because it's human nature. Some people will never be happy. If Neotel's offer was half the price it is, people would find something else to complain about.

Vodacom/MTN/iBurst/Sentech all do compete with Telkom, you cannot just ignore the fact. If it was not for them just think in what state of our telcom's would have been. Neotel offerings ATM is wireless not fixline so they compete more with iBust than with Telkom. (They do not really compete with Vodacom/MTN as it is not Mobile)

For now I will stick with Vodacom until they sort out some critical issues.

The prices still suck. Nothing that I have read about what Neotel has to offer has done anything to inspire me to up and leave Telscum (as much as I hate them).

If they want me to leave Telscum, then they must offer me a fast internet connection (2.4Mbps), with at least a 50GB Cap (preferably NO cap) for about R300 to R400 a month - then I am in. And they can keep all their bundled crap - I don't want 1000s of Neotel to Neotel call minutes; I don't want to be able to SMS from my landline. All I want is reasonably priced DSL access. What is the point of a connection offering speeds of 2.5 Mbps, but capped at 1.5GB/2.5GB/5GB/10GB or even 20GB? That is like saying: "Here are the keys to that brand new Ferrari over there - the car is yours, but you are never allowed to go over 40 Kmph" - how pointless is that?

It's the same old, same old again in SA. Fat cats wanting to get fatter off a largely uninformed public, who are too afraid to moan about anything.

What I am saying is that you can't use broadband and the phone at the same time... I need both...

if they can give a better service and the same "deal" at the same price as telkom its good enough :)

do you really mean what you said? telkom, and other isps are bloody expensive. its a good deal?
broadband in this country is 1000% more expensive than in other countries.

neotel will have to do much better then this for it to become a good deal.
they didnt cut theirs prices nowhere close to to that figure.
Neotel is just another crook. fair enough they a bit cheaper but not enough by far. We not going to get anywhere in this country if we except all the crap we are being offered.
Neotel, if you cant do better than this, pack your bags and go back to India.
Maybe somebody else will.

I really am amazed at this ongoing bitching about the prices. 1k for uncapped in this country (unshaped at that) is a bloody amazing deal. fine, it wont be good for gaming - but apart from that, everything else is super with that type of speed. too expensive? expensive compared to what? a standard adsl 4mg line where rental alone costs R360 (looking at axxess) then you add all your gb's and bam! where are stuck? maybe 10-20 gigs if youre lucky. very lucky.

i for one hate newsservers, as i cant download what i want - there is precious little choice. its fine for reading popular stuff, but if your into mire obscure reading... then it is a bit difficult.

FFS people - i also hate telkom and the telekoms situation in SA, but this ongoing whinging about the high prices is just ridiculous.

I think the uncapped accounts are cool and a good deal. The problem is that we don't all need a terabyte of data a month. A nice 10 gig cap for R300 would suite me fine. At the moment I pay R588 in total for a voice line I don't use at all and DSL with 5 gigs of data. With the economy in the state that it is and prices being what they are I am just going to have to cancel my Internet connection at home unless things get better. I don't see why I can't have a basic data account with them for R300 a month. 10 gigs a month at 300 - 700 kb/s is not going to kill their 10 gb/s network. They should be able to offer it at R300 a month when SEACOM lands.

I don't think that it is unreasonable to ask why we will get disconnected from the Internet when a phone call comes in on Neotel. This is going backwards. One of the major benefits of ADSL that is always mentioned is that you can be on the Internet and the phone will still work. This makes it ideal for small businesses where the guys want to have a business voice line and Internet at the same time. Imagine having to time when you make a call so you don't interrupt the next guy who is trying to download his e-mail

The contract is another step backwards. I can go month to month with every other provider if I want to. Why can't I buy the device for cash from them? I don't mind paying whatever they ask for it. Getting tied into a contract at this point in our telecoms history is absolute madness. The lack of Ethernet also makes it hard for business/home users to share the Internet connection. I don't want to have to buy/find an old computer to use ICS. We are past having to do that now. R800 for a nice pretty little router. Simple as that. I want to use my current router.

I think that they are legitimate moans and concerns. If I didn't make myself known here then I would just end up keeping quiet and I would just carry on using Telkom because they give me what I need. Then where would Neotel be? So I would rather moan and bitch in the hope that they will see that there are a lot of users like me out there. Then hopefully they would make the changes that the market are asking for and then we would be able to move over to them.

Guys, who the heck cares how much you're currently paying? Neotel are offering products and not forcing you to sign up. Take it or leave it, but FFS stop whining

I care how much I am paying. With all the studies published on MyBroadband about the prices of Internet connections in this country I am guessing that I am not the only one who cares. I won't sign up at the moment...

This is the real deal here, Neotel is a company they are there to make money, its called business. They DO NOT care what you want, they care about making money. They are slightly cheaper than Telkom and others maybe. but thats the point. They drop the price slightly and people buy from them, then telkom drops thier prices and so forth it carries on. Soon while both companies are fighting each others prices, is not because of giving it to us cheaper cause they like us, its because they want the money, people are willing to spend that slightly cheaper price, and Business people know this. they did not spend billions only to fall from charging high prices if they are not sure they will get their money back.

Now if they start charging you R 599 now, and every month they drop R100 to keep up with telkom if they also drop prices, in 4 months they make R 1995. Now if they came in a price at R 199 in 4 months they only make R 796, thats less than half.

You will soon miraculously find out how much Telkom, vodacom, mtm, cell c. Can actually drop there prices, if you have not noticed it already. They sitting at a level where we all could be happy with a nice payable internet, but they bring it down slowly to make more money. So you say to yourself. if they charged R 999, (6 months ago), and now its R299.
They could have charged you that from the begining if they wanted to, but everybody is willing to give there money up quick. and that is why it will drop slowly.

A fair point. I think that Neotel should keep vigilant though. With Vodacom and MTN laying their own fibre it could get interesting...

To all the anti-complaining peeps out there - thanks fro all the lessons in economic, excuses, explainations etc.

We have every right to complain and moan and bitch about a SNO that we've waited for for years and only differentiates itself with ever-so-slight pricing improvements - and offset with the downside of wireless tech latency and associated problems it just about evens out.

We've seen various broadband saviours over the last few years, each in turn promising the earth, doing 'unlimited' packages - think sentech et al. and simply failing - or just eventually falling roughly into line with telkom pricing structures or simply choking their pipes until they're unsuable.

We need to stay on their backs - not complaining is not an option.

Ther are 2 things that could happen. If south africa dont apply for their services. it would mean we would force them into a position to lower their service otherwise they wont make any money and they would therfore dig into there coffers, until one day they have no money left and definitly drop the prices. Or by not buying there services, and actually putting them out of business leaving us with only telkom agian. And telkom saying there will be an 88% price increase due to Oil prices. inflation, so called economy, or what ever.

I for one will not be buying ANY NEOTEL SERVICE untill it atleast matches the same standards as overseas internet. I dont mind if it is slightly higher in price but not tripple the amount if qaudruppled. If overseas can provide cheap internet for their customers in their own country, there is no reason why neotel or telkom that can say they have to pay alot of money for bandwidth, because this bandwidth would also be offerd at a nice price for them. And the rand pound dollar or what ever has nothing to do with it, cause its suppose to work out the same or just minor adjustments.

I am also like most people here. who was so excited about neotel coming and was more than happy to jump on board, but now that i am older, (cause its been so many years for them to come out) i can see what its all about. Everybody hates telkom we all know that, but it sort of gets what we need for now. Everybody wanted neotel and thats why some people say dont complain, because they scared of losing something they think is good, wich is good i must be honust. But it is not good right now. I dont mean to be mean or anything, but come on there is an indian dude running the place. He gonna run neotel like a corner shop. markup 20% discount 15%. Business people will take all the money they can get. Dont be stupid, spend your money on something thats actually worth it. and not give in to someone who just wants your money. R 999 is not worth it, EVERY MONTH. some children who want to play online games will never have there parents paying for something like that. But if it was R150 i bet they be doing chores around the house making up that money to get it. So you take something that someone could never buy gives you nothing, and then take i dont know 5 million kids who want to play online and now can spend R150 ( with some getting it as pocket money under the age of 15) compared to R 999. And maybe add on another 5 million between the ages of 15 and 20, and so forth. 7 million 20-25, the more people can afford , the more people will be able to buy you can get 1 million people that can buy it for R 999. and you can get 10 million people who can buy it for R200, having it at R 200 makes double the amount but more work involved

While I agree that it would be cool if more people could access the service for the same price rather than a few people at a higher price I have to disagree with your comments regarding the CEO of Neotel. Racial stereotypes are not cool...
