I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand car, am considering a 2013 1.4 Fiat Punto the Easy model. Is there anyone who owns this car, would love to know if you have experienced any problems with it. Would also appreciate feedback about maintenance costs, fuel consumption etc.

Finally a Fiat thread! I've owned a 2007 Grande Punto 1.9 emotion for about 7 years now and have thorougly enjoyed it. My major problem has been with our local dealer when i take it for a service, they seem to roll a dice and replace parts at random hoping for a result. Other than that the car has never let me down. On that note you will probably hear a lot of horror stories about Fiat buy Ill leave it to you to make up your mind. There is a Fiat forum in the Uk where you can also ask for an opinion, guys are helpful and quite knowledgeable. Btw we also have a Fiat 500 1.4 Lounge and just as great a little car

FIAT REVEALS NEW ARGO HATCHBACK (TO REPLACE PUNTO)

Fiat in South America has released the first official images of the new Argo, a light hatchback positioned to replace the Punto.

Although not many details have been released, we do know that the Argo will be launched initially in Brazil. No word yet on whether there are plans to eventually offer the newcomer locally, but rumour has it that other emerging markets – such as India – are under consideration.

According to Motor1, the Argo will be available in Brazil with a choice of three petrol engines: a 1,0-litre, a 1,3-litre and a 1,8-litre. Three trims levels are expected to be on offer, with the images seen here depicting the range-topper, complete with daytime running lights, red bumper trim and a chrome-tipped exhaust.

Expect the newcomer to compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai i20.

Fiat Punto taken off sale after 13 years

The Fiat Punto has been taken off sale in the UK as production of the model has ended, 13 years after its introduction.

A replacement for the supermini looks unlikely; instead, the space freed up at the company's plant in Melfi, Italy, will be utilised for a second Maserati SUV, as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles attempts to ramp up the luxury brand's sales figures.

In its final year on sale, the Punto gained infamy for becoming the first car to receive a zero-star rating from crash safety body Euro NCAP.

The recently discontinued Punto was the third iteration of the model. It originally went on sale in 2005 as the Grande Punto, was facelifted and renamed the Punto Evo in 2009 and then reverted to the original Punto name with a second update in 2012.

It was decided that a new Punto wouldn't be a wise move by late FCA boss Sergio Marchionne following the 2008 economic downturn.

Post-Punto, Fiat will concentrate even more upon its 500 sales spinner, with a 500e electric car - the brand’s first - and a 500 Giardinera small estate on the way for the next-generation city car, which is due in 2019.

The Panda is also in line for replacement, while the Tipo and 124 Spider complete the range.

I owned one and sold it last year.

TL;DR: I bought one, had electronic issues with it that 3 different workshops could not figure out, threw some money at the problem with no joy, sold it.

It was sitting next to a similarly spec'd and priced i20 but I fell for the Fiat Grande Punto's good looks and reasonable price. Beautiful car that drove smoothly, light on fuel too.

Then I started having electronic issues with it. Started off with a jerking motion when driving, would happen randomly, like it wants to cut-off. Took it in to a well-respected mech who has those fancy laptops with the proper software etc., but he could not find the cause.

Slowly got worse until one day it went into limp mode. I parked it off and called a tow-truck to a different workshop that I know and they too couldn't figure out the problem, worse still that the car was out of limp mode now and the problem couldn't be replicated.

Second time it went into limp mode I asked an industry connection to recommend another auto-electrician and left the vehicle with him for a week, he too could not figure out the cause but I insisted he try something as I was frustrated, he threw parts at it that would have possibly been an issue but no joy.

I drew the line at replacing the onboard computer. I sold it off soon after fully disclosing the problem to the new buyer.

I wouldn't buy another Fiat, would rather get a second hand-Hyundai. They seem to be "delicate."

Thanks, nothing can be worse than a car with issues that can't be fixed, especially electronics, i'll have to look more at mainstream brands then.

Fiat Punto set for 2023 reboot with Peugeot underpinnings

The Fiat Punto hatchback was quietly discontinued three years ago, after 25 years and three generations, with the last iteration sticking around for 13 of those years. But now the Fiat Punto looks set for a reboot in 2023, with completely fresh underpinnings.

According to Carscoops, parent company Stellantis revealed during a recent presentation that Fiat planned to launch a brand new B-segment vehicle in 2023, and that it would be based on a “common” platform.

The logical assumption here is that the Punto successor will move over the CMP platform, which originated as a Peugeot architecture but which now looks set to underpin a wide range of vehicles across the Stellantis group’s 14 brands. CMP currently underpins the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, and interestingly this won’t be the first time that the Punto has shared a platform with the latter as the third-generation Punto was related to the fourth-gen Corsa through a commonly-developed architecture.

Given that the 2023 Fiat Punto will likely be closely related to the latest-generation 208 and Corsa, you can expect it to be offered with Peugeot’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, in normally aspirated and turbocharged form. It’s also very likely that it will follow its French and German siblings in offering a fully electric variant, particularly given Fiat’s ambition to make electric cars more affordable.
