Mate of mine went to look at the Tipo, and wasn't impressed with the overall look & feel of the interior, according to him it feels very "plasticky".

I personally love the styling, both inside and outside, and even though I'm not a huge Fiat fan, I think it is good value for money, given that the Tipo is a C-segment size car. I do feel they have missed out on the opportunity to offer a flagship model with their 1.4 Turbo engine, and the 3-year warranty is disappointing.

Quick question - why does the hatch costs R20,000 more than the sedan? The specs, from what I could see, are exactly the same. It doesn't make sense, unless I'm missing something?

Civic and Mazda 3 hatches cost more than their sedan counterparts as well. Probably because it is "more" car although I'd almost always take a sedan over a hatch.

Then you get, for example, Audi who prices their sedans more than the hatch counterparts. Kia charges the same for hatch and sedan models (i.e. Cerato range)

I still don't get it!

2021 Fiat Tipo facelift previewed in leaked images

Italian family hatchback will gain a restyled front end, new interior tech and Fiat's new-look logo

New images circulating online appear to show the facelifted version of the Fiat Tipo family hatchback ahead of its expected official unveiling later this year.

Turin’s answer to the Volkswagen Golf is claimed to have been caught undisguised at a Fiat factory in Turkey, and pictures posted to the Piedi Pesanti Facebook page give us an early look at its restyled front end and new-look dashboard.

The most obvious styling tweak is the addition of Fiat’s new logo, which swaps the red and silver rounded badge found on current production models for the simpler, retro-styled design first seen on last year’s Centoventi concept.

Other visible details include new LED headlights, a bold new front grille and reshaped foglight surrounds. This prototype appears to sport contrasting protective body cladding, which hints that the updated Tipo will be offered in jacked-up Cross guise, like its 500X and Panda stablemates.

A shot of the interior gives little away, but the current car’s analogue speedometer and rev counter have made way for a digital instrument display similar to that in the new Fiat 500e.

Fiat Tipo Cross

The Fiat Tipo has been refreshed: a complete restyling of the line-up, new design - more captivating, younger and more dynamic, the highest technology there is and new better-performing and environment-friendly engines. The line-up is also being expanded into the new crossover: the New Tipo Cross.

The new line-up revolves around two themes: "Life" and its 3 trim levels - Tipo, Life and City Life, available in three body variants (4-door, 5-door and Station Wagon); and the "Cross" theme, with two trims - City Cross and Cross, and in the 5-door body crossover variant.

The versatile and captivating Panda Cross was the strategic key to this model's success across Europe. Indeed, the 'crossover' look has moved Panda closer to a new, younger target customer, those looking for a car that is not only functional, ideal for the city, but also super cool and with a contemporary design. The same strategy has also been taken on in the Tipo, with the extension of its family. Fiat's designers and engineers have developed the new Tipo Cross along those lines, creating the new crossover Tipo, again aimed at a new target audience, broader than before in terms of age, aesthetic taste and mobility requirements.

Revamped 2021 Fiat Tipo gains high-riding Cross variant

Fiat hopes to follow Panda Cross success with a similarly bulked-up variant of the Tipo

Fiat has introduced a new high-riding Tipo Cross model as part of a mid-life facelift for its family hatchback.

The new variant stands around 70mm taller than the standard Tipo and gains an SUV-influenced skidplate, bumpers and side skirts. Roof bars are offered on the estate version, too.

The Tipo Cross also sits on larger tyres, with Fiat saying the design changes are intended to give it “an even more robust look”. The tyres also contribute to the 40mm increase in ride height, along with a revised suspension calibration based on that of the 500X crossover.

The decision to launch the Tipo Cross follows the success of the Panda Cross, which Fiat says has helped the Panda attract new, younger customers.

Facelifted Fiat Tipo revealed and new ‘Cross’ hatch variant added

Fiat has pulled the covers off its facelifted Tipo range in Europe, while also adding a new Cross variant to the line-up.

As with the outgoing line-up, there’s a choice of five-door hatch and four-door sedan (plus a wagon in some markets), but the line-up has now been extended with the introduction of the new Tipo Cross.

Just as you’d expect from a cross-hatch, the newcomer’s ride height has been hiked (by almost 40 mm, says Fiat), while plenty of extra cladding has been added, along with the obligatory roof rails.

The broader Tipo range, meanwhile, gains a redesigned grille, updated front bumper and revised headlamps. New 16- and 17-inch alloy wheel designs have been rolled out, too.
