Hi guys,
Over 2 years ago I assisted my friend in installing a pretty advanced network in his fathers business.
The network is entirely gigabit and consists of many PCs, 3 Servers, 2 NAS units, the list goes on.
His company is in the properties' cottage which is about 70M from his study. He currently has two ADSL lines one for study and one for business. However his study is not linked to his business.
He has spoken to me about how he could directly connect the business to his study (and also save on just having 1 ADSL connection). I am aware that a good quality Cat5e or Cat6a cable could be used. However I am looking for any alternatives. He is particularly interested in fiber as it would make each end safe from lightening, has less attenuation than Ethernet cable, etc. He has specifically asked me to avoid wireless and look at it only as a last choice.
As far as I can tell I will need 2 Fiber Converters (media-Converters) and fiber cable.
However, though I do know a little about fiber networks I am not sure about the following:

- Exactly what other equipment would be needed?
- Good product makes?
- Where to get the equipment?
- Installation instructions?
- Basic pricing of equipment?
- SFP Transceiver (What are they and do you need them)??
