OK so Dark Fiber Africa has laid fiber passing 400 m from my house about 2 years ago in Brackendowns.
Does anyone know what is the next step?

That's probably backhaul cable. Just because fibre runs past your house does not automatically mean you have access to FTTx unfortunately.

You'd have to contact a FTTx service provider and see what they can offer in your area.

Mortgage your house because you're going to be paying literally tens of thousands of rand per month for that service. Probably well over 100k for the installation as well. Speak to MTN Business.

Thanks, though I must confess I would have liked an answer of "congratulations, you won fiber to your house at the same price as ADSL."
Is that coffee that I smell?
Any predictions on what would be the next step from Telkom?
We received upgrades to our adsl lines but now the SNR is so high I believe my line is slower than 384k duh!

Actually that is not 100% true.

While DFA mostly do backhaul fibre in the cities and on the south and east coastal cities, they also lying fibre in neighborhoods with the hope that some ISPs will pick up on it and start selling FTTC/H. Although I will say the pickup on the last has been non-existent.

Well, it's cheaper than you make it out to be...

About R1000 per Mb/s

For home use it's not bad (bit high for me though), for business use it's a bargain.

Installation fee was R1500

So not that expensive at all really
Been using the 15Mb line for 2 years now and never had downtime, 15 up and 15 down, 10:1 contention ratio but we do 15Mb all day long
Company going to get 100Mb in the next few months, at only R9999 a month it's a bargain
