Is there a process that fiberhoods are supposed to follow, or permission they need to get to setup? Our cul de sac has just had poles installed everywhere and the residents would prefer not to have their ugly poles everywhere.
Are they allowed to just set up without getting permission?

thanks.

Sorry for going off the topic...If you don't mind me asking, which area is this?

There is a whole Gov process they go through, which includes gaining access to usage of verge / sidewalk. Would you rather not have fibre?

first I heard of fibre being suspended on poles. lol

Fibrehoods does overhead cables. They have permission from w/e planning dept. for the poles and their positions already.

The poles are staying up, despite whether or not people think it is ugly.

You guys now have fibre. It is worth it I promise :)

Shouldn't that question have been asked before the process?

I suppose then technically you should not have a say - it's not on any land you own. If you don't want it, then don't take the service. Why spoil if for anyone else.

I had a friend who was delayed from getting it due to people saying the poles look ugly, yet there were Telkom poles right there as well. I would be seriously annoyed if that happened to be. Getting a free increase in property value, making my area more desirable and access to decent internet versus some poles.

I've seen two types of aerial deployment. One used on municipal land, with the other using private land with consent. If they encroach into your land, by all means complain. Cannot fathom why someone would cause an issue over a few poles when it brings quality broadband.

I think if your ENTIRE road has an issue, then Fibrehoods may consider not doing the deployment - but your road would look stupid being the only one in the area without Fibre, and come selltime would put off a lot of buyers.

Well let's assume for arguments sake that:
Of the 52 houses in our complex, only one answered a survey saying that may consider broadband. The rest ticked the Not Interested box.
We would prefer another fiber provider who puts the fiber underground.
We now have 15 poles and a waste of time for our RA to try find out how to go about stopping this deployment.
Putting fiber on poles is just ridiculous from a logistics perspective of how fiber works.

Lastly, maybe you should consider that not everyone wants broadband. Surprisingly there are other people in the world and they have different wants and needs than you do. I know it's a shocker.

Then approach Vumatel - but it's simply poles on municipal land which is beyond your control. I know people that complained about subterranean deployment which caused broken driveways etc. They won't go into your complex should there be consent (Will just presume body corp), and if they do it is normally done via any underground conduits that you have already.

Normally how the providers work, is a suburb rallies behind one and gets enough interest to make the Fibre investment worth it. This means that in your suburb there was enough interest to get this going. So while your complex doesn't want it, there are obviously enough people who do.

There are plenty of posts on here about aerial vs subterranean deployment, but it seems that your suburb chose the one over the other for whatever reason. Mine chose Fibrehoods for whatever reason (and we are surrounded by Vumatel). It's just one of those things that we live with to get what we want - you didn't go and get Telkom to dig out their poles I presume?

You should move to a farm outside a major metro if your view is that "not everyone wants broadband"....
Anyone with mentality like that holds up the progress and benefits that broadband bring in "General"!

There should be no reason why the entire major metro areas should not be covered in Fibre either above ground or below... This should be a national asset and rolled out everywhere!

Well Vumatel now own Fibrehoods so don't see much happening even if you did contact them, generally that is government land so property owners don't have a say on what happens in that space unfortunately.
