We are getting fire installed by VUMA in Blairgowrie and I've been going through the service provider options. As a current MWeb subscriber for ADSL though, they seem way out of touch with the other providers from a cost and cap point of view. Their options are typically up to 250GB unless you have a big jump in cost and speed to 500GB at 1000Mbps (R2499). I'd be happy with a 50Mbps and a 500GB cap which would let me really use the benefits of fibre (current average use is about 270GB a month), at about the current price of their 250GB (R1249-00). The other providers of 50Mbps are giving uncapped or up to 400GB for around this amount. From a marketing point of view I find it really strange, and with this product line up they are not going to be a player in fibre. It means I'll probably keep the ADSL with a low cost product for Mweb, and go for another fibre provider which is a costly option - its such a pain losing an email address I've been using for years. Now the question is who to use for fibre?

We have the EXACT same problem. I have even contacted other ISPs to see if we can transfer emails. No provider can do that. Another problem I found is that mweb cannot transfer the telkom number to their VOIP service, while other providers can. What to do, what to do....

Oh, and let us not forget that providers lile Cool Ideas does not charge for installation nor once-off.

You do realize that you can pay MWEB a monthly fee, and keep your email address? It is about R80 per month. Which would not only save you money from having both accounts, but also give you the option of taking fibre with another provider.
