I need to choose between the following options for fibre. Will be using fibre for streaming and downloading. Anyone with experience on the following options. Will obviously go for the cheaper option if there is no big difference between the options. (All 10mbs)

Afrihost Home Fibre R 597
Afrihost Premium R 697
Cape Connect R 549
Cool Ideas R 599
Home Connect R 488
Imagine R 549
Rocket Net R 595
SADV R 699
Webafrica R 599

The company managing the fibre for the complex is SADV. Home-Connect seems to have the best deals at R588 for a 20/20 line uncapped, unshaped. Just concerned as to why their 20mb line costs the same as other competitors' 10mb lines...

Because they block all access to the router, limiting your capability to customize the settings to conform to your needs. Also, gaming will probably suffer under home connect.

Just remember to check out the ISPs FUP. A lot of ISPs have FUPs which can hit hard i.e. Afrihost Fibre Home 10MB = 120GB softcap Afrihost.PNG

Home-Connect Softcap: "To help ensure that all customers have fair and equal use of the service and to protect the integrity of its network, Cipherwave reserves the right, and will take necessary steps, to prevent excessive usage. “Excessive usage” means usage in excess of 1088GB per month."

Does anyone know if Cape connect throttle or shape or cap their 5 or 10 mbs offerings
Someone was asking me if 5 mbs was sufficient as its only 250 pm yet installation to her flat and box require r1850
I don't think she can switch providers and contract is for 12 months on debit order
Well what can you do on 5 that you can't on 10 or more?

We do not throttle, shape or cap any of our uncapped services.

We need to compare apples with apples.

Your friend is in an estate where we own the fibre. The 5Mb your friend is referring to is R285.00 per month. There is a R1850.00 installation fee. When we own the infrastructure, we can design products and speeds exactly as per the clients' requirements, as we are in control of everything. If clients want 2Mb, we can design them a 2Mb package. If clients want 200Mb, we can do that too.

People watch Netflix, Youtube, Showmax and services such as Schoener-Fernsehen on our 5Mb products.
People also game happily on it.

Zerak is in an estate where SADV own the fibre. We are limited by the layer 2 products that SADV offer. Their smallest offering is 10Mb. Here, we control nothing. Any contention or increased latency experienced between the client's home and our DCs in Rondebosch or Isando would be a result of contention on the SADV backhaul. This is out of our hands.

Thanks Cape Connect for the detailed response...she will complete the application form and looks forward to activation in HP
Best wishes

I know exactly which complex she's in :)

We'll have two teams of fibre splicers in there over the weekend.

If all goes to plan we will commission the first three houses on Tuesday 18 April.

It's a lovely estate, but so far every conduit leading from the comms ducts into homes has been damaged, hence us having to play catch up this weekend.

As luck would have it, one household applied for a 5Mb, another for a 10Mb and the third for a 20Mb. One resident is porting his existing land line.

We should then have 12 days of thorough testing before we officially launch the site.

Ja do your own research ! Not all "free installs" are real free installs.. some have claw back clauses... "if you cancel in 12 months you are liable for install cost"
