This a.m. I noticed a couple of bakkies parked in the street very near to where I live in Swellendam, Western Cape. One of the bakkies had a sign on it with the name "Corline Fibre" and several manhole covers in the vicinity where open, with bright day-glo cones to warn drivers of works in progress in the area. I can't seem to find much info about "Corline Fibre" though.
Does anyone know of the company Corline?

This would just be one of the many contractors being used, so basically could be anyone. Best is to stop and ask.

Am I right in thinking you saw them in the general area of Voortrek Street?

If so: Oh goody!

We are in the process of linking a company in Swellendam up and have been waiting months for Telkom to get on and do the job of running the fibre from the exchange to their premises.

Looks like at least one company in Swellendam will soon have fibre in their offices.

We know Coreline well and have worked with them on numerous other Telkom fibre projects.

No, it was not in Voortrek St. It was Groenewald St. (the road that leads up the hill, past the old cemetery, in the area close to the Fynbos Heights residential complex.

UPDATE: I took a stroll up the hill past my home an hour ago, and had a chat with a guy sitting in a Corline bakkie, while the other workers were busy at several open manholes along the road. The guy in the bakkie (I guess he was the Corline supervisor) told that they were installing fibre cabling from the Swellendam Telkom exchange, to a tower outside of the dorpie of Swellendam. I tried pushing him for more info, but he didn't seem to know more than that.
But I am hoping that one day we will get FTTH in this small Western Cape dorp.

We had coreline lay fibre across our driveway a year or so ago, which I was told was for Telkom, nothing ever came of it and our area is being covered by MTN fibre who are busy laying their own fibre.

Telkom has not listed my area as a fibre area; I was excited at the time but looks like it was private.

Thanks for the update.

Sad news for both of us.

Good news is that you will probably soon have super fast LTE from Telkom Mobile.

I see they are busy laying the cable up Kerk Straat (extension of Gronewald) towards the church that's about 250m from me. I spoke with a guy from Whisper Net doing an installation at my neighbors house he said they would have access to fiber within the next two/three months.
Would that not be awesome if we could all tap into that?

They installed Cybersmart lightspeed for SSK and Boshoff Visser.

Nothing useful for residents.

I moved to Swellendam at the begining of October and had ADSL installed yesterday. Telkom told me only 4mbps available but Telkom Tech doing install said 20mbps ADSL available in Swellendam so I upgraded to 10mbps and syncing OK.

He also hinted that fibre will arrive before LTE but couldn't / wouldn't give time frame

My line is also 10mbps, but I had to struggle to get Telkom to acknowledge that it was available as their systems only indicate the 4mbps and when the online staff try to activate it the system would not allow them to complete the application. But eventually it went through.

Just spoke to Emile from Telkom as soon as they have 50 interested parties they will upgrade the exchange for fiber.

Email him at [email protected] to add your name top the list he already has 26

Cool, pass the word around sooner we can get to the magic # the sooner we get access :)

Fibre available in swellendam. In the following streets:
Cyprus st
Steil st
koster st
kort st
kloof st

to order go to swellendam.lightspeed.co.za

Now if they could only provide fibre in Worcester, I see vehicles installing fibre for the past 2 years now and still no fibre options available :/ Also Corline.
