Fibre Installation - Max distance from street?

I am thinking of getting fibre installed. However, the distance is about 60m or more from the street to where the ONT will be.
What is the max distance the fibre installers do? I see Afrihost mentions on Openserve installations they do 30m max. The rest you are liable for.

How much would that extra 30-40m cost?
I am currently using Afrihost Telkom LTE 2TB sim but the connection has been wonky the last few weeks.

Does it have to be installed in a conduit if I am running it on the wall from the street?

The invoice is being sent directly to the client and I have not had a client share with me what they were charged. @AfriNatic, have you experienced extra cabling charges for Openserve?

We're seeing more and more direct to the client from the installer. And the price depends on the installer's mood.

Yeah, I have not seen a client charged yet but as @portcullis mentioned it's based on the contractor's mood. Sometimes they do a 100m install for free not even a mention of distance the other times they refuse even for aerial installations, sometimes they even install an extra pole if it's quite far other times they don't do the installation at all.

Greet them with a smile, speak about how hot it is at the moment.
Don't mention the distance just comment how you looking forward to fibre internet.
Offer them tea, coffee or cold drink.
See what you can get away with been friendly, then if they ask for money say you only got x amount with you.

This is important. Nice begets nice.

If it's an installer doing work for Openserve, chances are he's an independent contractor, having to buy his own fibre, conduit etc, after investing capital in a splicer and at the bare minimum, a fibre signal strength tester.

If you treat the installer with decency and don't make him feel like the hired help, he might just go the extra mile (or 10m) for you.

Please remember, there's a very strong chance that he's had to buy everything needed for your install and pay for it up front from the likes of Scoop, Uniterm, FTTx Warehouse etc, but will only be paid by the FNO when they reconcile at month end.

I spoke to them once a while ago when I found them outside and I asked them if they were willing to do that distance and they did not have an issue.

The problem is I am not gonna order the fibre to get the contractor here and he charges me R180p/m. Then I will cancel the order.
If there is just a way to get the contractor here and let him do an assessment and tell me what's cooking. Then I can decide if I want to continue with the order or not.
 
in most cases the installer will come out after your order is placed with the ISP and before they start they will quote you
Should you not with to proceed with installation, your order should also then be void with the ISP

Just say no when the guy comes. Had openserve out at my place and they wanted to run the cable aerially across half my garden. Told them no thanks and that was the end of it.
 
We had a huge Zoom fibre rollout in our area last year. Guy came out and did a site survey before they came out and there was also talk about extra charge if it was more that 20m from the connection box in the street.

When the installers came out they had a bunch of pre-made ruggedized fibre leads ranging from 20 metres to 50 metres. They did a thumb suck to gauge length and then installed a 50m lead because they had run out of 30m which was all that was needed, the extra is coiled up in the connection box in the street.
No extra charge.
 
Usually, the isp absorbs the cost of installation from the FNO which in turn will be signed via agreement with yourself(customer) and the isp. Better part of most isp's usually make up the cost with-in the 12 months agreement. Hopefully, except when forcefully aquisitioned. Terms and Conditions are a playground for financial brutality. But discuss this with isp and quote on it, better be safe than sorry. Clawback fees are dangerous.
 
I know its been a while, but when I had fibre installed 4 years ago. Axxess had the free install promo up to 30m. The contractor came around and I showed him where I wanted the ONT to be. He counted out the distance using footsteps and told me, its 32m. He charged me R50 a metre, so R100. Guess he needed lunch money for him and his workers :D

What would convince the installers even more to do the job without any additional fee is to do the trenching yourself, DIY or ask your gardener to dig a 15CM wide and 30CM deep trench. They will drop in the PVC and that's pretty much it.

Make sure they can easily get the cable in the ceiling via the exterior wall.

Yup, this is exactly what I did. Ran conduit from the point of entry into my house to where I wanted the fibre to terminate, with fish line installed and junction boxes at every change of direction.

All that the had to do was trench from the road to the house wall which was about 12m. Installer was like "eish , you have made our job so easy":p

I did the same for the distance from the pole to my yard as I didn't want any overhead hanging cables, the okes were elated that they dont have to plant a pole and all those things, until they got into the yard and figured out I want the fiber on the other side of the house where it comes in my yard, a few grumbles later it was done, but the reaction was hilarious, they thought it was going to be a few minutes install
 
I provided a pipe and draw wire for the fibre guys (with 2 inspection boxes), drilled a hole through the outside wall
And a shelf and plug for the ONT and (my) router
The whole job was done in under 30 mins
The total length of the draw wire was 55m
There was no extra charge
 
Thanks for all the replies. Will look into this now in the new year.

Atm I have a router in the guard house roof for my ip cameras by the gate. The router connects to my house wifi. The connection is a bit patchy. If I am going this route with fibre and conduit I thought I might as well pull a network/fibre cable through the conduit to hardwire the router at the guard house.

Now my question is should I go with Cat6 cable for the 60m run or would a fibre cable be better? If I go fibre how do I connect the fibre to my switch in the house and to the router at the guard house?

Any links to cables etc will be appreciated.
