I have a question for you gents (and ladies).

I bought my house and because I plan on working fulltime from home from next year, fibre was an important factor for me.

I checked and called the fibre network provider to make 100% sure that they have fibre running in the neighborhood, which they confirmed. Once the OTP and all that was done, I placed an order on their website to install the line a week before I moved in. Side note: if you know how these sites work, you have to enter your exact address before they'll let you continue with registration so as to make sure the address is covered.

Fast forward to the day the installation was scheduled and a lady calls me to say there's no infrastructure in my specific street and IF I'M LUCKY the planning department will contact me if they decide to trench. Also, that the process could take up to three months as the holiday period is coming up.

I now have to fork out a fortune on mobile data because it's school holidays and the kids have nothing to do other than watching YouTube and Netflix (I don't support monochoice).

I need some advice please.

I tried that, they told me they can only activate it on 1 January. That doesn't help me much.
Odd. My Rain mobile sim was activated towards the middle of the month last month just fine, though granted I didn't tick the uncapped box.

CellC's giga bundles perhaps?

Hi its not that the area isn't covered. Its a 100m stretch that hasn't been trenched because (I suspect) the construction company was still building mine and my neighbour's house. The neighbour hasn't moved in yet, so he's probably going to go through the same thing

You could look at enrolling your kids in a holiday program, there are some pretty cool ones all over SA..

My Rain uncapped sim took a few hours to activate once it was inserted into my modem. From ordering to delivery took 3 days!

Just an update on this, Vumatel informed me they'll do the ducting to my house during the course of this week. I'm pretty chuffed that they're keeping their word despite their site having slightly misled me.
