Fibre Network Quality or Quantity?

Well sht. Look at that.

If I would have to guess it would probably be this order

1. AWS
2. Google Cloud
3. Azure

That said Google is getting very popular. They are leveraging their extensive network to connect. In most cases ISP's already have PNI's set up with them because Google and Netflix is the most traffic on ISP's networks.

Quality can also relate to the actual outside plant deployment.
I have seen FNO's at 30cm or shallower with their cables and atrocious management in the nodes - this will no doubt also contribute to unreliability in the near future.

Well I'm coming back to quality of network: layer 1/2 (FNO) or 3 and above ISP.

Linteg has multiple ISPs on their network to choose from.
yes, they do have multiple ISP, the one I am using since I was on Newcofibre and now on Accelerit, I had to move cause we were arguing over the speed test results versus it shows nothing to help with my issue of bad connections and every time I was referred to Linteg, and every time same stories. but now I need to move out of the area cause I am not getting any better service I now need to find out what tests I need to run to make sure I am getting the service that will help me to find the right area to move to.

This is why I am asking whether these ISP's are just chasing quantity and not quality. When do they start to make quality networks that will serve their customers properly? Or is that not their concern as long as you have fibre you should be happy. maybe we should look at what is the quality assurance that happens when these companies are given the area to put fibre in.

Well, i just changed from ADSL to fibre 25/10 I dont need high speed over that. However the ADSL was way more stable in operation, the fibre in operation is jumping all over the place and in some connections worse than ADSL.
The only place it shines is in a speed test, and that varies a bit too.
I have tried all kinds of speeds with one of the ISP just to make sure that the speed of the line is not a problem, and to no surprise, I was running into the same issues all the time, and when I engaged them on at whatever speed line I get the same issues then they come up with all sorts of issues I even moved areas to make sure I am not delusional and guess what other people out there are living the dream, so when I told them about the test now they want to trash the other network and not look what's wrong with their own network.

I am on Evotel and using CoolIdeas. Must say it has been rather solid. have had some instances of randomly high latency to local servers at times. Most recent was Discord I think it was 1500ms in the evening then woke up again back down to 17ms odd. Then another I remember was the ARMA 3 KOTH server was sitting at a latency of 300 odd then a few weeks went by then back down to 3ms. What I have kept installed for instances like this is Cloudflare warp just to resolve bad routing issues when they arise.
they can be solid but my issue is that I need a stable connection when I need to do what I need to do, the service is not pay-as-you-go, or pay-as-you-get good service. the service must always be on and stable at all times cause we agreed on a stable price for a service, now the ISPs want to give less than service, I have had pings my gosh (If every time I swore will get me a stable connection I would be a master at swearing) that you literally had to leave the guild cause you can't keep up or you lose overseas friends cause I don't have a stable connection.

Maybe you misinterpreted how I said it. Rather solid as in there have been 2 times I can think of in around 5 years is rather decent. I get my advertised speeds well damn near close as I have never seen a speed test show 1000mbps however I do get 114MBps on download and I would say they live up to 99.99% stable and as advertised speeds and latency which is great to see with a home connection. Evotel I think I have had around a few hours over the years of downtime. usually up within the hour and Cool ideas bar the few which I would put down as Routing issues have a very solid network,

To be honest with you gaming in SA sucks pretty hard most of the time, we get screwed over by the likes of Google, Amazon, Microsoft etc. They all peer locally and then take your traffic over their network and the ISP can do nothing when their network is trash.

Google is a great example their network sucks so hard and their routing is trash but ISP's just say "there is nothing we can do about that" my fibre network is perfect but sadly gaming experience sucks to any and all Google servers...
Can't be worse than RAIN 5G surely

RAIN don't have a bad network tbh, their routing is pretty consistent with the top ISP's but the problem is LTE connection, towers being strained and all ruin the experience. I had a neighbour in my street getting 400 download, 50 upload when they lived 2 houses away and their gaming ping was only about 18 to 20ms more than mine and that was the ping to the tower

Loadshedding also not great for LTE/5G.

Well they no longer buy their own transit. They now use Vodacom. They have WIOCC still but probably just because of contracts or backup.

148ms +- to UK
150ms in LoL EUW
1 - 10ms to any local server (I think to JHB would be about 20ms)

Octotel: Atomic Access

Just drop any ip's if you'd like me to test them for you.

I have seen one of the installers one man was folding the fibre cable backwards & forwards multiple time without reason to do so in his hands before they pull it through beneath the street.........May not see a problem now, but who knows later on....Seeing all fibres were laid roughly over same timeframe it will be real interesting to see how things goes in 10 years time regarding complicated faults between home owner and ISP playing out, where the fibre has deteriorated but not broken.
