Big thanks to MickeyD for posting fibre details and to guys who've posted explanations.

I'm still confused though, so please will somebody help.

Huawei have dug trenches in our road. Telkom, Vuma and Huawei keep asking for access to the property to install a "box". Our road has a group, all of us have so far refused access.

Question #1 - does it matter who installs the box?
Question #2 - if the box is installed can we use any provider? Can we change provider if necessary.

Nobody in the road wants to sign a contract. Do any providers have month to month access?

Thanks, sorry to ask again.

In Blairgowrie the fibre boxes have been installed on the outside walls of all properties, no access to properties was required for that part of the process.

If you then request a fibre connection through Vuma they will require access to your property to run the fibre from the boundary wall into your house. That incurs an installation cost (unless you choose a deal with an ISP that covers that cost).

Once the fibre connection is up and running you will have access to the Vuma portal, from this portal you choose the package and ISP from a list, sign up with one, and that provider will bill you accordingly. Most of the ISPs have month to month options, so you can change providers, again through the Vuma portal, if you are not happy with a service.

Aha! so if Vuma installs on the property you have the Vuma portal, if Telkom do it you have the Telkom portal etc?

Also, if WA works through Vuma is there a charge from WA and another charge from Vuma?

If you have the choice, get vuma fibre. Telkom is much more expensive and slower.

Also, no, you don't pay Vuma.
You pay them for the install, but once you sign up for an ISP, that is the only monthly charge - vuma charges your ISP.
