They aren't doing it for charity. The R3600 helps to pay for the network costs. Imo dropping it would be bad for them as well as that's what's been getting most signups. Without it they won't be able to expand as rapidly. I just don't know if the number of people on paid packages has an effect on whether they roll out.

I do still think they have a gap to fill with R200-300 packages like on Vumatel. Even in a wealthy suburbs like Parkhurst many people are going for those and personally I'm looking for one at no more than R250 rather than the free package.

Agreed. Paying R3600 once off or 300/12 for a lifetime of uncapped 5mb Internet doesn't seem that expensive now does it...it's less than the price of a low end smartphone.

If they can keep that contract with existing customers they will build a client base like crazy

So if I understand this right they want to get contracts for all of the sign ups before they start trenching?

Roughly 50 contracts have been returned. This is nowhere near enough for us to begin trenching. We will be encouraging users to sign their contracts and return them as soon as possible.
 
I hope they do it by Email. Will be most effective in reaching people.

I think what 123Net should do is take out an ad in the local newspaper wherever an area has reached the target number. Would help get people to return their contract and also get additional customers on board.
 
That would be great. A few ads here and there could really boost their momentum. They could even look to negotiate a deal with the main newspaper in an area, free publicity for a few months (full page ads) in exchange for say perhaps free installation on a paid package from 123net :) Barter, I know, Zimbabwe currency... but many people will be surprised at how many fortune 500 companies are doing it and the value thereof. Think tv ads and frontpage ads in prestigious newspapers and magazines. Much of it is done on barter.

Also Emailing the signups with an update on the importance of getting the contracts sent in will be great.

Mybb could do another article as well.

It would be nice to have a running commentary about the amount of contract out standing, also send us a flyer that we can do post box drops for in the area, something that looks good in black and white or if we have the means to print it in colour then we have that to. I wouldnt mind printing out 50 or 100 and doing a door to door post box run

A question for the network administrators I understand that the is no shaping or throttling or even fair use grouping, what about priority usage in terms of gaming and streaming. Destiny (PS and Xbox) uses p2p protocols are these protocols restricted or importance lessened
 
Also once they are in the area getting business contracts would be easier

I havent seen anyone post any questions for the tv service they are advertising on the website, is this coming to south africa? will it be 3d or 4k ready?

If there is no shaping or throttling it will mean you will run at max speed of your line constantly. You can however set up QOS protocols to prioritise for certain things like gaming and streaming for example on the router

123Net needs to target our mall. Simply because the sheer amount of people moving through there is amazeballz for business. It would also allow places like wimpy and spur for example to sport a 100mb connection in their restaurants without those silly shaping limits.

i took the 10 mb/s line on the contract but was thinking of upgrading to at least the 20mb/s line once they installed it. don't want to end up with 2 contracts for the same address. i have been telling all the guys at work about 123net, most guys are interested, but some want to wait out their current contracts before they make a change.

I get the investors want to start seeing a return asap on their investment...and they can even on the 5/1 R300p/m contract. They should definitely put it back up on the website asap. Look just amend it a bit. (Currently you pay R300p/m for 12 months after that it is free)

Wouldn't it be better terms if It would only be free for 1 year... 12months x R300 = consrtuction, the internet is still free.

Thereafter make it a month to month contract @ R300p/m If the subscriber doesn't reactivate their subscription after a set period of months reclaim your equipment.

Just look at the current market. R300p/m for uncapped unshaped on a 5mbps line is internet heaven for the majority of South Africans. It can be win-win. Why give a free lunch when you don't need to? I am just looking to get an acceptable middle ground that benefits investor and customer alike.

People aren't going to take an expensive contract that they cannot afford just because they don't have a cheaper alternative. They will just make do with what service is within their budget.
