Hello,

i live in a small complex with about 8 units. Metrofibre and Openserve is available in the area.

When I try to apply for a fibre line every ISP defaults to Metrofibre. I applied only to receive a call from them stating that the complex was lost to Openserve and that they cant help me.

Now this seems to be the case and Openserve already did part of the installation (see picture) however this was done almost 2 years back!

i was told that the complex active date is imminent and got my hope up just to be told that that’s been the status for the past 18 months.

My question is how I can get this expedited if possible? What should my next step be?

what makes matters worse is that I can see the Openserve “box” on my neighbours stand and his line going into his home - a freestanding house. That pole is les than 5 meters away feom me....

Any suggestions welcome.

Drop [email protected] an email with the above and they will query with Openserve, if you check Openserves map directly does it show you as covered?

Openserve does not show that we are covered.
So that's what's going to be tricky, see if you can get any circuit IDs or details off any of the boxes.

The alternative which may work is ordering for an address nearby which is within coverage, and then once the technician comes out you take him to where you want installed.

That would have been an option, however, that nearby address already have a fibre line. I tried and was sternly told you cant have 2 lines on the same address or something like that. So I did not even get past the application stage. So getting a technician close enough to ask for the line to be tossed over the wall os going to be the challenge

Are you sure the complex is registered as a multi-dwelling unit with the FNO and that fibre has been brought to the wall of each unit on the outside at least?

It's possible the complex is passed by and simply seen as a home by the FNO with one of the guys having signed up already.

In that case - at least with Vumatel, we had to get 40% of our complex to show interest and they did the installation for free to the outside of all the units.

Make friends with said neighbour. Negotiate paying half of a faster line that he currently has. Set up basic point to point wireless and switching to ensure fairness in terms of utilization.
