I have a 20 Mbps fiber line with Telkom/Openserve, i only stream Netflix and Youtube, the Netflix app ( built in ) registers 19 or so Mbps and so does Fast.com, would it help with the resolution to go for 40 Mbps or higher speeds or is that overkill

Getting higher speed will only help if you are wanting to stream the limited amount of Netflix content currently in 4k.. I am running 10mb ADSL and stream 1080p Netflix just fine..

If you are having issues with Netflix not streaming in 1080p, you either don't have a 1080p account or something else is hogging your bandwidth..

Depends on if you are busy downloading stuff in the backround while streaming, but 20Mb is 100% fine for 2 full HD streams and some bandwidth left for browsing

4K streaming will almost use all the 20Mb

Netflix recommends 25 Mbps for 4k streaming, will iIsee a difference going from 20 Mbps to the next level, say 40 Mbps, assuming no other streaming going on in the background

Yes, you will see a difference IF you are streaming 4k content from Netflix and move to a higher speed.. this is taking into consideration that the only issue is your bandwidth and everything else in your setup is working as expected..

Netflix recommends 25MB/s but I too have a 20MB/s line and have no problem watching Netflix in 4k.
Pressing the info button on my remote shows the detected speed and resolution.

It switches to 4k after detecting 15MB/s and that takes a few seconds after the video starts.
I am even able to stream in 4k with a second TV streaming in 720p (Guest account locked to 720p because I'm an ass like that)

Perhaps the first thing you should do is switch from Telkom to a decent ISP

You mean Cool Ideas on Frogfoot ;)
Would be a billion times better than Openserv/Telkom package you currently have.

I'm with Cool Ideas on Octotel and have had 0 issues.

Thanks PsYTraNc3,
in which way would Cool Ideas/Frogfoot be better, i don't have any problems Telkom/Openserve overall, I get between 17 and 19.63 Mbps on the internal Netflix speed test and the same on Fast, com pretty much all the time, not an expert on this stuff, so not sure of all the other parameters-Thanks
