Hey guys,

I couldnt find any info on this, but once the fibre is pulled through the manholes, roughly how long does it take before Telkom lights it up?

There are too many variables to say.

Are you sure it is Telkom fibre and not DFA or other? It could be pulled for a FTTB AE project so you might not even get it yet if you want it for home.

I'm wondering the same thing...

I know it is Telkom in my area and certain parts have already gone dark purple. but would love to know time frames or whom to contact for accurate information

Hi Guys

The best advice I can give you is to talk to the contractors that are laying the fibre. There are three things that need to happen once the fibre installation itself is complete.

1. Telkom performs a site inspection.
2. The contractor splices into the Telkom backbone.
3. Telkom switch on your network.

I spoke to the contractors in our area, and they were able to give a pretty good idea on when the above steps would be taking place. It is also likely that everything will be ready for you to order before the Telkom map is updated to purple.

It can take months. In our case DFA has lit up fibre all over the suburb. Vumatel for example would only look at feasibility if an area has at least 2000 houses and there is at least 600 interested parties. Once they think it is feasible, it can take up to 5 months for the fibre to terminate at your home.

It is actually a bloody joke, I have fibre running past the curb (200m from my house), within our estate (200 houses) we have 70 interested parties and no-one is interested (except MTN and Vodacom, but I am not interested in a product other than open-access). If Telkom had a bit more drive, they could actually very quickly monopolise the market - at the moment it feels like most fibre providers come up with half-baked wireless solutions. TBH I rather stick with my 20M VDSL.

Hi Wasabee!,

big green cables pulled in. Ichecked. It is Telkom rolling out in our area.
