Hi all

I’m currently on lte and I’m thinking about going for fibre. But I want to know if it is quicker and if I need a line to install it.my dl speed at the moment is around 60-70mbps,will I get better download speeds and better value for money as I’m not uncapped?I also wanted to know if there is a lot of network traffic

Any help would be great

You don't need a telephone line in order to apply for fibre, but the network operator will need to install the fibre cable to a point on your property.

Fibre lines are priced according to the speed of the connection and most providers bundle an uncapped account with the line. Whether it will be more cost effective would depend on how much data you use per month.

Generally lte will be more cost effective for low usage, while fibre will be more cost effective for high data usage. The speed of your lte connection depends on how good the signal quality is.

Find out who builds the fibre network in your area (eg openserve, frogfoot, vumatel etc) and then compare the packages they offer.

Thank you for your response. Yes I use a lot of data a month as I stream and game so I think fibre would be good.
Which isp would you recommend?

Where are you located? Can you PM me address and I'll check if you can even get fiber first for you.

I was using Vox as my isp when I still had an adsl line and stayed with them when Frogfoot (a subsidiary) built the fibre network in my area. The performance is ok although the download speeds can sometimes fluctuate quite a bit. Cool Ideas seems to be another popular isp.

If you are going to install a high speed connection then I would like to suggest that you also consider investing in ethernet network cable inside your house. Where possible, connect your streaming/gaming devices to the wired network. Run another cable to your existing lte router and re-use it as a secondary access point which will improve your wifi throughput throughout the house.
