Like FHM mag said - Fifa has come on in leaps and bounds and every footy fan should try it out. After they do, they will quietly go back to the king of the hill - except if they like that (still) piss poor excuse for a footy game. I tried Fifa 08 after nearly 8 years of self imposed Fifa exile and while I have to admit its loads better than 2000/2001, its still nowhere near as elegant as PES. Even that steaming pile of horse manure called PES 2008.

I started playing FIFA since FIFA 06 and I loved the game, I didn't even know there was something like pes. Then FIFA 07 was released and it was absolutely awesome, I played it constantly. I was almost strarting to get bored with 07 after a year when FIFA 08 was launched. I was REALLY very disappointed with this one. It felt like a rehash of 07 just made worse and laggier. It was then that I started looking around and found PES 08. This game was miles ahead of FIFA 08. So much more realistic and solid with fluent gameplay and more intelligent AI, that don't just run into each other constantly. When finally FIFA 09 was released I was very excited. I was really expecting something great and an improvement to 08. Initially, I was disappointed. The game still felt laggy and I noticed it only utilizes one core of my dual core processor, just like FIFA 08. After deciding to give the game a chance I started falling in love woth the new control system using the mouse and keyboard. I just love the level of control you now have in the game. It is so much easier to put in perfect through balls and brilliant tricks. FIFA 09 has great new up-close visuals and the fact that it has all the club licenses, crests, etc makes you feel more at home. I can't wait to see what PES 09 has to offer

maaaaaaaaan. you started on the worst pes to date. if you actually like football and not just footy games (not a flame or troll, alot of people are really like that) then try out pes 09 - its slower, more paced and actually plays like a real footy game. dont get me wrong, its still a game (ie: its not over simulated) but my brother and i took about 2 hours to get used to it properly and we couldnt go back to 2008. it just cant compare.
btw, is fifa 09 with the mouse more of a "control the team" type of gameplay (like the wii version of pes 2008) or more individual focussed (like... er... every game except the aforementioned)

I am a hardcore footy gamer and for me PES always took it. Recently you got alot of okes saying that Fifa 08 is different and better but for me its not.
I play PES 2008 almost everyday. The passing is more fluent, its more paced compared to Fifa. What irritates me in Fifa is every darn time u pass a ball, the ball does a little bounce. I feel it slows the game down ever so slightly.
Some people might argue that PES is more of an arcade styled game, if that be the case then i would prefer an arcade style game when it comes to football.

only with the latest incarnation IMHO. too fast paced and unrealistic (adriano anyone? super sonic like wing play etc) but once you try 2009, youll see a bit has changed.

Ya, there are certain players that are a bit fast paced but in real life those are the players that are a bit faster than the rest.
Pro Evo is all we play. We have Pro Evo tournaments once a week. Busy organising a Pro Evo braai to sort out the rankings, cos the guys are pretty competitive.
Im in Cape Town. Pro Evo is the best game i have ever come across to play with friends. Well if you into football that is.

Fifa 09 PC version is actually made for the PC. Mouse and keyboard is fully supported.
PES PC version is just ported from XBOX360. Keys are really crap on the keyboard, and I couldnt even change them in the game.
PES does feel better, I agree, but this year Fifa 09 will win because of the better porting to PC.

For me, Fifa has been my choice for 1 simple reason, I play manager mode and play most of the games, love it!
Also prefer having real teams etc, I know, Superpatch, but it should be standard and not have to fiddle.

Just use a game pad. Sports games are meant to be played with a game pad.
Pes is better on the pc even if its a direct port and this is even before the community kitserver has been released. Kitserver each year improves pes by 50% and they will do it again. The key thing will also be fixed with kitserver.
Game play pes wins and on gfx it also wins.
If Ea actually gave the pc gamers the game they gave the console gamers it would win but since they are lazy greedy sob's that's not the case.
Its only the epl teams affect by that 90% of teams in the game uses their real names. Its only those with exclusive deals with other games that are affected.

gameplay similar? on what planet are you living? they are completely different... sheesh... though i cant argue about the graphics. Fifa always owned pes concerning graphics and licenses, but i dont really care much for those - withhout the gameplay, its all gloss...
I decided to get myself a copy of fifa09 after being a strictly pes fanboy for the last 10 yrs or so. I am using it on a ps3 and have been very impressed. It seems to have been modelled on pes and feels similar to pes however there are a few niggles in gameplay that sets the 2 apart. I have not played pes09 but i feel that there is now minor differences in gameplay between the 2. For pes gamers, you will find fifa not as smooth as pes. Fifa feels too scripted however it is emjoyable. Things you take for granted in pes, ie control of players, movement, passing still seem to set the 2 apart but ea have gotten very close in terms of gameplay. I cannot wait to try out pes09 and if the gameplay has slowed down a tad, it will make it that more enjoyable.
What is the release date for pes? I phone toysrus and looknlisten and they have told me mid nov. I thought the release date was 24 oct!

It was 24 October it slipped on the release date to 7 November. Both taketwo and bt had it as 24 october on the 23 but then the next morning it suddenly slipped to 7 November.
Fifa on the consoles are good but its total crap compared to pes on the pc.
