How does DriveSentry work?
DriveSentry works by monitoring each application writing to your drives. Only applications you have authorized can write to the drive and all others are blocked. If you can imagine a software firewall monitors internet traffic, well DriveSentry monitors drive traffic.
How does DriveSentry stop viruses and trojans?
All viruses and Trojans have to access your drives if they wish to replicate themselves or cause damage to your data. DriveSentry will detect any write access immediately and warn you if you wish to block or allow the write. DriveSentry will detect any unauthorized access and prompt the user.
Can DriveSentry stop certain file types being written?
DriveSentry is incredibly versatile as it not only allows you to prevent applications writing to your drives but can also control what file-types they write. A few examples of this functionality could allow you to block an email package from saving attached files. DriveSentry could be used to stop file sharing tools from saving certain file types eg. MP3's or movies.
Does DriveSentry need any virus signature files?
No - DriveSentry works totally differently than traditional anti-virus tools and doesn't detect viruses by a signature. The major benefit is that DriveSentry can detect even the latest viruses and Trojans. In this way all new viruses that haven't been detected by anti-virus companies will be stopped with DriveSentry.
How do I determine which applications to block or allow writing to my drives?
All users have a standard set of rules that can be used on installation. DriveSentry connects to our central advisor server to determine what actions other users have undertaken for an application. The advisor service can also provide you information on why applications have been blocked from running.
Can DriveSentry stop rootkits and keyloggers?
Yes, both forms of technology have to write to the drive which will be detected by DriveSentry as it monitors disk drive write access at the system level.
What platforms do you support?
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista, all with the latest Service Pack. There are no plans to support older O/S at the moment.
Will DriveSentry slow my PC down?
DriveSentry uses advanced patent-pending technologies to rapidly monitor your drives.
Do I need to run my existing anti-virus/spyware tools?
DriveSentry is complementary technology to current detection technologies as it detects the newer threats that current A/V products don't.
How much does DriveSentry cost?
DriveSentry is completely free, no feature limitations or trialware. You have unlimited use of the software.
Do you bundle Spyware or Adware?
No, we do not bundle spyware or adware with DriveSentry.
